Quick answer

Sign in, click Me then Account & Settings, scroll to My Plan, and click Cancel Subscription (or use Manage membership → Cancel subscription on your dashboard). Click through the "Don't lose your benefits" screen with Continue to cancel. You keep Premium until the end of your paid term, then drop to a free Basic account — Care.com does not give refunds, and a 3- or 12-month term won't be prorated if you leave early. Screenshot the confirmation and keep the email; users report being auto-renewed after canceling.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Open Account & Settings

Sign in at care.com, click the Me drop-down in the top-right, and choose Account & Settings (some accounts label it "Settings & Privacy"). Scroll down to the My Plan section — it shows your member-since date, account status, plan type, next billing date, and next billing amount.

Click Cancel Subscription

In the My Plan section, click Cancel Subscription. If you're on the member dashboard instead, expand Manage membership on your profile card — you'll see Cancel subscription and a One Click Cancel button alongside your billing date and amount. Either path starts the same cancellation flow.

Get past the "Don't lose your benefits" screen

Care.com shows a retention page (labeled "Step 1 of 2") listing what you'll lose — background checks, booking babysitters, messaging caregivers. Ignore the Keep my plan button and click Continue to cancel.

4

Confirm the cancellation

A green banner appears: "Your subscription has been canceled and you can continue to enjoy your paid benefits until [date]. We have sent you an email with the details." At this point you are already canceled — everything after this is optional feedback.

Skip the cancellation survey (optional)

Care.com asks "Did you find a caregiver on Care.com?" (Yes/No) and then "Why did you cancel your subscription?" with a list of reasons and an Other free-text box (200 character max). None of this is required — your cancellation is already confirmed. Pick a reason or just close the tab.

Skip the NPS and feedback prompts (optional)

If you continue, Care.com shows a "How likely are you to recommend Care.com?" 0–10 scale, then a "Your responses have been submitted" thank-you with an Ok, got it button. Purely optional feedback — you can close the tab at any point without affecting the cancellation.

Verify your plan shows as downgrading

Back in Account & Settings → My Plan, the plan type should now read something like "Monthly Premium. Your account will be downgraded to a Free Account on [date]." You keep full Premium access until that date, then automatically move to the free Basic tier — no further charges.

If the web flow glitches, use live chat

Some users hit a bug where clicking cancel forces a re-login and dumps them back on the homepage, or the page won't load at all. If you can't complete the cancellation on the site, contact Care.com support through the in-app live chat (or Help Center) and ask them to cancel — get the cancellation confirmed in writing.

Cancel any add-ons separately

Canceling your Premium membership does not cancel paid add-ons like "Feature your job post." Those are billed separately — cancel them from the same Account & Settings area if you don't want them to keep recurring.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Care.com does not refund Premium or Complete memberships, background checks, or add-ons — its refund policy is "no refunds, no matter what." When you cancel you keep your benefits through the end of the paid term, then downgrade to a free Basic account. That remaining access is the closest thing to a refund you'll get.

You still keep Premium access until the end of the term you already paid for, but Care.com will not prorate or refund the unused months. The lower per-month rates on the 3-month ($25.99/mo) and 12-month ($12.99/mo) plans are a commitment in exchange for the discount — you can stop the auto-renewal, but you can't exit the current term for a partial refund.

Two common causes. First, paid add-ons (like Feature your job post) bill separately and aren't canceled when you cancel the membership — cancel those from Account & Settings too. Second, some users report auto-renewal charges after they thought they'd canceled, sometimes because the web flow glitched mid-cancellation. Always confirm you saw the green "subscription has been canceled" banner and keep the confirmation email; if you're charged anyway, dispute it with that proof.

Cancel Subscription stops the paid Premium plan and downgrades you to a free Basic account — your profile, messages, and history stay. Close Account (a separate link in Account & Settings) deletes your entire Care.com account. If you just want to stop paying, use Cancel Subscription, not Close Account.

For families, Premium is $38.99 for one month, $78 total for three months ($25.99/month), or $156 total for twelve months ($12.99/month) — the longer the commitment, the lower the per-month rate. The Basic membership is free but only lets you post jobs and browse profiles; messaging caregivers and running background checks require Premium.

The web flow above (Me → Account & Settings → My Plan → Cancel Subscription) is the most reliable. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you may need to cancel through that store's subscription settings instead. If the Care.com site or app glitches during cancellation, fall back to live chat support and ask them to cancel for you in writing.
