Step-by-step instructions

1

If you're on the free trial, cancel before it ends

The 14-day free trial auto-renews into a paid plan ($99/year or $9.99/month) at the end of the trial. Cancelling the trial early still lets you use the benefits until the trial date ends, so there's no reason to wait. The single most common Instacart+ complaint is forgetting the trial and getting billed the full $99 year.

2

Open Your Instacart+ membership

On the website, click the 3 horizontal lines in the upper-left corner. In the app, tap the Account icon in the upper-right corner. Then select "Your Instacart+ membership" to reach the management page.

3

Click Cancel membership

Scroll to the "Manage your membership" section. Below your plan details and the 7-day renewal reminder toggle, click the dark "Cancel membership" button. If you only see "Renew membership," your membership is already cancelled or expired.

4

Decline the save offer and confirm

Instacart shows a "you still have X days left" screen listing benefits you'd give up, with a grey "Keep membership" button next to a red "Confirm cancellation" button. Click "Confirm cancellation."

5

Click Done on the confirmation

A pop-up confirms "You have successfully cancelled your membership" and states the exact date your benefits run through (your membership won't renew and your payment method won't be charged). Click "Done" to finish.

Verify the cancellation stuck

Back on the membership page, the button should now read "Renew membership" and your benefits should show an end date. Instacart also emails a cancellation confirmation — if it's not in your inbox, check spam. Several users report thinking they cancelled and still getting billed, so confirm both the page state and the email.

If this applies to you

If you signed up through Apple or Google Play

Instacart+ is normally billed by Instacart directly (card, PayPal, or Klarna). If you subscribed inside the iOS or Android app store, the "Cancel membership" button may not stop billing — cancel through Apple (Settings > your name > Subscriptions) or Google Play (play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions) instead.

If you were charged and want a refund

Annual members get a full refund only within the first 5 calendar days of the paid term (15 days in Canada) and only if no orders were placed on the membership. Outside that window there's no refund, but benefits run to the end of the period. For accidental trial-to-annual charges, contact support via "Get help"; if support stalls (refunds are discretionary and can take 5-10 business days), a card dispute or CFPB complaint is the usual escalation.

If you share a Family account

Cancelling ends Instacart+ benefits for every member you added to your family account, not just yourself. Make sure no one else is relying on the shared $0 delivery fees before you cancel.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Once you cancel, Instacart won't renew or bill you again, and the confirmation modal plus email state the exact date your benefits end. You keep $0 delivery fees through the end of the current billing period. If you still see a charge after cancelling, it's usually a renewal that posted before the cancellation registered — that's refundable, so contact support right away.

Annual members can get a full refund only within the first 5 calendar days of the paid term (15 days in Canada) and only if they haven't placed any order using the membership. Monthly plans are not refundable. Outside the refund window you keep benefits until the period ends but get no money back. Accidental free-trial-to-annual charges are often refunded as a courtesy, but it's discretionary and can take 5-10 business days.

Only the Instacart+ membership ends — your Instacart account, order history, saved addresses, payment methods, and shopping lists all stay. You can keep ordering as a non-member; you'll just pay delivery and service fees again. You can re-subscribe any time from the same membership page.

If a third party handles billing, Instacart's own "Cancel membership" button may not stop the charge. Cancel through whoever bills you: on iPhone, Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions; on Android, play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Most Instacart+ memberships are billed by Instacart directly (card, PayPal, or Klarna), so this only applies if you subscribed inside an app store.

Yes, and you should if you don't want to keep it — the 14-day trial auto-renews into a paid plan unless you cancel first. Cancelling the trial still lets you use benefits until the trial end date, so there's no downside to doing it early. Note that a renewal charge can post up to 6 hours before the official renewal time, so don't leave it to the last minute.

Yes. Return to the membership page and select "Renew membership," then choose the annual ($99/year) or monthly ($9.99/month) plan. Your account and history are untouched, so rejoining is instant. Returning customers don't always get another free trial — the trial is typically a one-time offer per account.
