Quick answer

Sign in at my.nordaccount.com, open the Billing tab, click Cancel next to Auto-renewal, then confirm with Cancel auto-renewal. NordVPN keeps working until the expiration date shown on the same page — but note the app charges annual and 2-year subs up to 14 days before that date, so cancel well ahead.

NordVPN was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Sign in to Nord Account on the web

Open my.nordaccount.com in any browser and sign in. Cancellation is web-only — the NordVPN desktop and mobile apps don't expose the auto-renewal control, and Reddit is full of users who thought they had cancelled in the app and got charged anyway.

2

Open the Billing tab

In the left sidebar, click Billing. On the Subscriptions tab you'll see a card titled "Included in your plan" showing every Nord product on your subscription (NordVPN, NordPass, NordLocker, or bundles), Auto-renewal: ON with a Cancel link, the renewal date, and your saved payment method.

Nord Account Billing page Subscriptions tab showing the Included in your plan card with NordVPN and NordPass Premium tiles, Auto-renewal ON with a Cancel link, Renews on January 30 2025, and a right-column FAQ section including "When will I be charged for auto-renewal?"
3

Click Cancel next to Auto-renewal

Inside the card, next to "Auto-renewal ON," click the Cancel link. Nord Account swaps the card for a blue-header info panel titled "What will happen if you cancel auto-renewal?" listing what expires and when.

4

Confirm with Cancel auto-renewal

The info panel lists three bullets: your subscription will no longer renew and will expire on the shown date, you'll lose access to every product in the bundle when it expires, and you'll need a new subscription to continue. Click the outlined Cancel auto-renewal button on the right. The blue Keep auto-renewal link next to it is the save offer — ignore it.

5

Verify Auto-renewal is now OFF

You're returned to the Subscriptions card. Auto-renewal now reads OFF with a red warning triangle, the "Renews on" label has changed to "Expires on" with the exact end-of-cycle date, and a black toast at the bottom of the screen reads "Auto-renewal canceled. You can turn it back on anytime to prevent disruption to your service."

You can turn it back on anytime to prevent disruption to your service."

Check your inbox for the confirmation email

Nord sends a confirmation email titled "You've cancelled auto-renewal" to the address on file. Save it — it's your independent record of the cancellation date, useful if a charge somehow lands after expiry and you need to dispute it with your bank.

If this applies to you

If you signed up through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon

The Nord Account Cancel link only appears if you paid NordVPN directly. If billing runs through an app store, cancel there instead: iPhone — Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > NordVPN > Cancel Subscription. Google Play — play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Amazon Appstore — amazon.com/gp/mas/your-account/myapps > Subscriptions. Refund rules differ per store — Apple doesn't forward refunds to NordVPN at all, Amazon handles its own refunds, and Google Play refunds within 48 hours can be done at Google directly.

If this applies to you

Watch the charge date, not the renewal date

NordVPN's own FAQ (visible on this same billing page) states annual and 2-year subs are billed "up to 14 days before the subscription expiration date." Multiple readers set a calendar reminder for the expiry date shown in Nord Account, get charged two weeks earlier, and can't undo it — the 30-day money-back guarantee doesn't apply to renewals. Set the reminder for at least three weeks before your expiry date.

If this applies to you

Remove your card only by deleting the whole Nord Account

Turning off auto-renewal doesn't remove your saved payment method — Nord support has told users on r/nordvpn that "we are unable to delete only a portion of the data that is associated with your account, such as payments." The only way to strip the card is Nord Account > Account settings > Delete account, which is permanent and nukes NordPass and NordLocker along with it. Community-recommended alternatives: pay via PayPal or Amazon Pay (disable the recurring payment on their side), or a privacy.com virtual card with a $0 spending limit that will simply decline any future charge.

Ask for a refund only if you're still inside the first 30 days

The 30-day money-back guarantee only covers your initial purchase — renewals are explicitly excluded. To request a refund: click Chat with support at the bottom of any support.nordvpn.com article; support emails you a link that opens a self-service refund panel in Nord Account where eligible payments show a Refund button. Processing takes up to 4 hours to submit and up to 10 business days to reach your bank. Apple App Store subscriptions are ineligible entirely — go through Apple directly. EU and UK subscribers additionally have a 14-day statutory right of withdrawal on new subscriptions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not on your current subscription — once you complete the flow, NordVPN says auto-renewal is off, the card flips to "Expires on [date]," and no further charge should hit the payment method on file. The trap is that annual and 2-year plans are billed up to 14 days before that expiration date (Nord Account's own FAQ says so), so if you leave auto-renewal on and try to cancel "the week before it renews," you may already have been charged. Cancel the moment you don't plan to keep the sub.

The 30-day money-back guarantee only applies to your first purchase — renewals are excluded outright, and users who previously got a refund aren't eligible for another. Inside the 30-day window: start a live chat from any support.nordvpn.com article, support emails a link into a self-service refund page in Nord Account, and eligible payments show a Refund button. Processing takes up to 10 business days. Apple App Store purchases go through Apple. Amazon Appstore purchases go through Amazon. Google Play purchases can be refunded by Nord support inside terms, or by Google directly within 48 hours of the charge. EU and UK subscribers have an additional 14-day statutory withdrawal right regardless of NordVPN's policy.

Turning off auto-renewal is just a billing change — your Nord Account, saved credentials in NordPass, and any files in NordLocker stay put; the paid features on those products expire alongside NordVPN if they were part of the same bundle. Your saved card details and billing history also stay on the account and cannot be removed piecemeal — only deleting the entire Nord Account (Account settings > Delete account) removes them, and that permanently kills NordPass and NordLocker too. Export your passwords and files first if you go that route.

The Nord Account Cancel link only appears for direct purchases. iPhone/iPad: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > NordVPN > Cancel Subscription. Android: Play Store > profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > NordVPN > Cancel Subscription. Amazon Fire: amazon.com/gp/mas/your-account/myapps > Subscriptions > NordVPN > Cancel. Each store's policy also decides refund eligibility — Apple doesn't hand app-store refunds to NordVPN, Google Play offers a 48-hour direct-refund window and lets NordVPN process refunds inside the 30-day guarantee, and Amazon handles its own.

Not on the website. NordVPN's help center is explicit that the only free trial is a Google-Play-managed 7-day trial available when you install the Android app from the Play Store — it's Google's trial, not NordVPN's, so you cancel it in Google Play (Play Store > profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > NordVPN > Cancel) before the trial ends. Every other signup path is a paid subscription against the 30-day money-back guarantee, not a trial.

Yes. After cancellation the Billing card shows an "Enable auto-renewal" button that reverses it in one click as long as your current period hasn't expired. Once the period runs out, sign in and buy a new subscription — new promo pricing usually beats the auto-renewal rate substantially, which is why regulars on r/nordvpn recommend always letting it lapse and re-subscribing on a fresh deal rather than letting a promo intro price silently renew at the regular monthly-billed list price.
