Quick answer

Cancel where you originally paid. Website (Paddle/Stripe): in the Speak app go ProfileSettingsManage MembershipCancel Subscription, then tap Yes on the confirm dialog and Continue through the reason survey. Apple or Google billed? Cancel in the App Store or Google Play instead. You keep access until the current period ends — canceling does not refund that period.

Speak was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Confirm where Speak bills you

Check a recent bank statement, an App Store receipt, a Google Play receipt, or a Paddle/Stripe email before you start. Website purchases cancel inside the Speak app under Manage Membership. Apple and Google subscriptions do not — you cancel those in the App Store or Play Store, even if you open the Speak app every day.

2

Open Manage Membership in the Speak app

Sign in with the account you paid with, tap Profile, tap Settings (gear icon), then tap Manage Membership. This is the same hub Speak uses for membership status, and it is where the cancel row lives for website-billed subscriptions. Store-billed users should skip ahead to the Apple or Google optional steps.

3

Tap Cancel Subscription

On the Manage Membership screen you will see three action rows below your membership card: See All Subscriptions, Get Subscription History, and Cancel Subscription (red icon). Tap Cancel Subscription. Speak is turning off auto-renewal here — you are not deleting the account, and you are not filing a refund yet.

4

Confirm the cancellation dialog with Yes

Speak triggers a native iOS confirmation sheet: "Are you sure you want to cancel your subscription?" with Yes (red) and No (blue) buttons. Tap Yes. The red-coloured Yes is the destructive-but-correct choice — the blue No is the default that keeps auto-renewal on.

5

Pick a cancellation reason (optional)

Speak shows a "Why are you canceling?" survey with five pre-set options: Not enough content, Too expensive, I like it, but just not using it, Glitches/unreliability, and Speech recognition issues. Picking one is optional — you can leave everything blank if you just want out.

Speak Why are you canceling survey with five stacked reason buttons — Not enough content, Too expensive, I like it, but just not using it, Glitches/unreliability, Speech recognition issues — above a Please let us know anything else here textarea and a blue Continue button
6

Add custom feedback and tap Continue

If your reason is not in the list, type a short note in the "Please let us know anything else here." textarea. Then tap Continue to finish the cancellation. The reason and feedback are both optional; the Continue tap is what commits the cancel — do not navigate back or force-quit before tapping it.

7

Verify your membership end date

Return to Manage Membership (Profile → Settings → Manage Membership) and confirm the subscription now shows it will expire without renewing. You keep full paid access until that date. Canceling only blocks the next renewal; it does not claw back a charge that already posted.

8

Request a refund separately if you need one

Cancel stops future bills; refund is a different path. Google Play or website purchases: Speak's refund policy offers a full refund within 7 days of purchase, and no refunds after 30 days from the payment date. Inside 7 days on Paddle, use paddle.net → Look up my purchase → Get help → Refund and cancel subscription. Stripe/Link or older purchases: email support@speak.com. Apple purchases must go through Apple — Speak cannot refund App Store charges.

Cancel a free trial at least one day early

Speak's 7-day free trial converts to a paid plan unless you cancel at least one day before the trial ends. Use the same Manage Membership → Cancel Subscription path shown above, or cancel in the App Store / Google Play if the trial started through a store. After a clean cancel, you keep trial features for the rest of the seven days and are not charged at conversion.

If this applies to you

If you signed up through the Apple App Store

Cancel in iOS, not only inside Speak. Open Settings → tap your Apple ID → Subscriptions → Speak → Cancel Subscription. If you switched from iPhone to Android, manage the same Apple subscription at Apple's subscription support page. Speak cannot cancel App Store billing for you.

If this applies to you

If you signed up through Google Play

Open the Google Play Store → profile icon → Payments & Subscriptions → Subscriptions → Speak → Cancel Subscription. If you moved from Android to iPhone, cancel at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions while signed into the Google account that purchased Speak. If Cancel does not appear in Play, use Google Play's Help Center — Speak cannot force a Play cancel from their side.

If this applies to you

Do not delete your Speak account to stop the bill

Account deletion (Profile → Settings → Account Management → Delete Account) is permanent and cannot be restored. Speak's help center is explicit that deletion does not automatically cancel or refund your subscription — store-billed plans especially will keep renewing. Cancel the membership first; only delete the account if you truly want the learning profile gone.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — once cancel is confirmed on the correct billing channel, Speak will not renew again. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. The usual trap is canceling in the wrong place: turning off Manage Membership does not stop an Apple or Google subscription, and canceling after a renewal already posted does not undo that charge.

Canceling alone does not refund you. For Google Play or website (Paddle/Stripe) purchases, Speak's refund policy allows a full refund within 7 days of purchase; after 30 days from the payment date, no refunds. Between those windows, email support@speak.com. Apple App Store refunds go through Apple only — Speak cannot process them. EU and UK buyers may also have a statutory 14-day withdrawal right on new subscriptions under consumer law.

You keep full paid access until the membership end date shown under Manage Membership. After that, the account drops to free/preview access — Speak's help center describes free members as able to use preview features only, with no charges. Your account and learning profile remain unless you separately delete the account. Deleting the account is irreversible and is not required to stop billing.

Cancel in the store that bills you. iPhone or iPad: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Speak → Cancel Subscription. Android: Google Play Store → profile → Payments & Subscriptions → Subscriptions → Speak → Cancel. Speak's in-app Manage Membership → Cancel Subscription path is for website (Paddle or Stripe/Link) purchases; store-billed Speak will keep renewing if you only cancel inside the app.

Yes — and Speak's help center says to cancel at least one day before the trial ends, or the selected plan charges automatically. Use Manage Membership in the app for website trials, or cancel in Apple / Google if the trial started through a store. After you cancel, you can still use trial features for the rest of the seven days without being charged at conversion.

Yes. Sign back into the Speak app and purchase Premium or Premium Plus again from Manage Membership (or restart through the App Store / Google Play if that is how you pay). Your account stays unless you deleted it. Returning customers pay the current list rates — US consumer SKUs verified 2026-07-21 are Premium $17.99/mo or $83.99/yr and Premium Plus $39.99/mo or $164.99/yr — and Speak may show regional or promo pricing in-app.
