Quick answer

Open Better Stack, go to Settings → Billing, and click Cancel on your plan card. Cancellation takes one click — there is no reason survey or retention funnel. Better Stack backs paid plans with a 60-day money-back guarantee, but the refund isn't automatic: email hello@betterstack.com to claim it.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Sign in and open Settings

Log in to your Better Stack workspace and open Settings from the account menu. You need an Owner or Admin role on the organization to see billing — regular Team Members and Responders can't change the subscription.

2

Open the Billing tab

In the Settings sidebar, under "Organization", click Billing. You'll see your current plan card (for example "Pay as you go", "Billed monthly"), an "Upcoming charge" panel with the next amount and date, and your past invoices below.

3

Decide whether to downsize instead of cancel

If your goal is just a smaller bill, click "Change plan" rather than Cancel — you can drop paid Responder seats back to free Team Member seats, or remove usage add-ons, and keep the workspace running. Cancel only when you want to end the paid subscription entirely.

If this applies to you

Download your invoices first

Scroll to the Invoices table and download any receipts you need for expenses or accounting. They stay available after canceling, but grabbing them now saves a trip back.

5

Click Cancel

On the plan card, click the red Cancel button next to "Change plan". Better Stack cancels the subscription immediately — there's no multi-step retention flow, no "reason for leaving" survey, and no confirmation modal to click through.

6

Confirm the cancellation banner

A green banner appears reading "Subscription was successfully cancelled." The billing card reverts to an "Enter a credit card" state, which is normal — it doesn't mean you're being charged again. Your access continues per your billing terms.

7

Claim the 60-day money-back guarantee if it applies

Better Stack advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee, but clicking Cancel only stops the subscription — it does not trigger a refund. If you're within 60 days of paying and want your money back, email hello@betterstack.com (the same address shown in the cancel banner) and reference your invoice.

If this applies to you

If billing is managed by someone else on your team

Better Stack subscriptions are organization-level. If you don't see a Cancel button, you're not an Owner/Admin — ask whoever owns the organization's billing to cancel, or have your role upgraded first.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Once you click Cancel on the Billing page, Better Stack stops billing the subscription and the "Upcoming charge" no longer applies. The billing card reverting to an "Enter a credit card" prompt is just the empty state — it is not a new charge. Check your next statement to confirm the recurring charge has stopped, and keep the cancellation banner as your record.

Better Stack markets a 60-day money-back guarantee, but the Cancel button only ends the subscription — it does not issue a refund. To claim the guarantee, email hello@betterstack.com within 60 days of your payment and reference the invoice. The Terms of Use otherwise state there is "no obligation to provide a refund of any amounts previously paid", so the money-back guarantee is a goodwill promise you claim by email, not an automatic proration.

Canceling ends the paid subscription. Free-tier limits then apply (for personal projects: a capped number of monitors, one status page, and limited log/metric retention), so paid-only monitors, higher retention, and add-on features stop. Export or download anything you need to keep — logs and telemetry beyond the free retention window are not preserved indefinitely after you drop off a paid plan.

Yes. Better Stack bills per Responder license, so if you only want to reduce cost, use "Change plan" instead of Cancel and convert paid Responder seats back to free Team Member seats (Team Members keep Telemetry access at no cost). That lowers the bill without shutting down the workspace. Reserve the Cancel button for ending the paid plan entirely.

Yes. Better Stack has a free tier aimed at personal projects — free Team Member seats with Telemetry access, a limited number of monitors and heartbeats, one status page, and Slack/email alerts. Downgrading to it keeps your account and history intact, whereas a full cancel winds the paid subscription down. If you might come back, downgrading is the gentler option.

Sign back in and return to Settings → Billing. The page shows an "Enter a credit card" form with a Monthly/Annually toggle ("Get ~2 months off"); add a card and pick a plan to resubscribe. If your workspace is still on the free tier, upgrading a Team Member to a paid Responder seat re-enables the paid features on the same account.
