Step-by-step instructions

Cancel on the same device type where you subscribed

Discord requires you to cancel on the same platform you bought Nitro on. If you subscribed on desktop or in a browser, cancel there. If you subscribed on a phone, you have to cancel through that phone (and often through the App Store or Google Play). The steps below cover the desktop/browser flow shown in the screenshots.

Open the Subscriptions tab in User Settings

Click the cogwheel next to your username to open User Settings, then select Subscriptions under Billing Settings. Your active Nitro plan appears in a purple banner with a Cancel link and a Switch Plans button.

Click Cancel in the Nitro banner

Click the Cancel link on the right side of the Nitro banner. Do not click Switch Plans unless you actually want to downgrade to Nitro Basic, which still bills you every month.

Skip the "you will lose these perks" screen

Discord shows a pop-up listing the perks you will lose: animated avatars and profile themes, custom emoji and stickers, and your free Server Boosts plus the Boost discount. Ignore the "Never mind, keep Nitro" button and click Continue.

Confirm the cancellation

The next pop-up explains that cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, names the exact date you lose Nitro, and notes your included Server Boosts will be removed. Click the red Confirm button to finish.

Verify the Pending Cancellation banner

Back on the Subscriptions page, the Nitro banner turns orange and reads "Pending Cancellation" with the date your subscription ends. A Re-subscribe button replaces the Cancel link. Seeing this banner is your confirmation that the cancellation went through.

If this applies to you

If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play

If you bought Nitro inside the Discord mobile app, Discord cannot cancel it for you. Cancel through the store instead: on iPhone go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions; on Android go to Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not Discord.

Canceling stops future charges but does not refund the current period. Discord refunds Nitro only if you request it within 5 days of the charge, at dis.gd/billing, and reviews each request case by case. Refunds are one time only, so you can never refund Nitro twice. Redeeming a promo like free Xbox Game Pass within those 5 days voids your refund eligibility.

If you cannot log in to cancel

If you have lost access to your Discord account but are still being billed (for desktop, browser, or Android purchases), email Discord Billing Support from the address tied to your account at dis.gd/billing and ask them to cancel it. For Apple purchases, contact Apple directly at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Once you cancel, Discord will not renew your subscription. You keep Nitro and its perks until the end of your current billing period, then it stops. The catch is timing: if you cancel after your renewal date has already passed, you are billed for that new period and only a 5-day refund window can help. Cancel a few days before renewal to be safe.

Only within 5 days of the charge. Discord reviews Nitro refund requests case by case at dis.gd/billing and grants one refund per purchase category for the life of your account, so if you have ever been refunded for Nitro before you are not eligible again. Redeeming a promotional item (like free Xbox Game Pass) within those 5 days also voids eligibility. Purchases made on an iPhone or iPad must be refunded through Apple, not Discord.

When the billing period ends you lose all Nitro perks: custom emoji and stickers across servers, animated avatars, profile themes and banners, HD video streaming, and larger file uploads. Your 2 included Server Boosts are also removed, so any server you were boosting with them may drop a level. Your account, messages, and servers stay exactly as they are — only the premium features switch off.

Discord can only cancel subscriptions bought on the same device type. If you subscribed inside the mobile app, cancel through the store: iPhone at Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions, or Android at Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. Discord Support cannot manage an iOS subscription for you — those must be handled through Apple.

Yes. If you are on a free trial or promotional Nitro, cancel before it ends so you are not charged when it converts to a paid subscription — the flow is the same: User Settings > Subscriptions > Cancel. Nitro obtained from Nitro Credits or a gift is time-limited and simply expires on its own, so there is usually nothing recurring to cancel there.

Yes. As long as you act before your billing period ends, open User Settings > Subscriptions and click Re-Subscribe in the banner to reverse the cancellation — the "Pending Cancellation" label disappears and nothing changes about your plan. If the period has already ended, you simply purchase Nitro again as a new subscription.
