Quick answer

In a web browser (not the BritBox app), sign in at britbox.com, click your name, then My Account, and under Plan & Billing click Cancel subscription. At Are you sure? click I still want to cancel and follow the prompts. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. You keep watching until the paid period ends, and BritBox doesn't refund the rest. Pay through Amazon, Apple, Roku or Google Play? Cancel there: BritBox can't.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Sign in at britbox.com in a web browser, not the app

BritBox handles cancellations on its website: its help centre says to sign in at BritBox.com on a computer or in a web browser on your phone or tablet, and that cancellations require the website. On a phone, BritBox.com can keep bouncing you into the BritBox app. On an iPhone or iPad, open the site in a Private tab in Safari or an Incognito tab in Chrome, which BritBox says stops the redirect. On Android, turn off Open supported links for the BritBox app in your phone's app settings, or use a computer. This guide covers BritBox in the US and Canada. If Amazon, Apple, Roku or Google Play bills you, britbox.com can't cancel it: skip to the steps for those below.

  2. Open My Account and click Cancel subscription

Click your name in the top right corner, then My Account. Under Plan & Billing, the Plan section shows your plan and its renewal date; click Cancel subscription next to it. Cancel at least 24 hours before that date, or the next payment may go through before the cancellation does. If the page sends you to the platform where you subscribed instead, a partner bills you and only that partner can cancel.

  3. Click I still want to cancel and follow the prompts to the end

BritBox asks Are you sure? Click I still want to cancel; a subscriber who described the screen in 2024 says the other button reads Keep subscription. From there BritBox's help centre only says to follow the prompts. Subscribers describe being asked why they're leaving and, on some accounts, being shown another plan or a cheaper year, with I still want to cancel to click past each screen. When it's done, BritBox emails you a confirmation with the last day you can watch. Keep that email as proof. A cancelled plan that hasn't run out also shows a Reactivate subscription button under Plan & Billing.

Heads up: Subscribers report a cheaper-year offer at this point, and r/BritBox regulars often take it. Not everyone sees it, and turning it down doesn't stop the cancellation. If you accept, screenshot the price and the renewal terms; one subscriber found the upcoming renewal priced at a smaller discount than promised, and BritBox honoured the offer once shown it in writing.

  4. If this applies to you

If you subscribed through Amazon Prime Video Channels

BritBox can't see, change or cancel a subscription that Amazon bills, and you can't sign in to britbox.com with it. In Prime Video, go to Account & Settings, select Subscriptions from the top menu, find BritBox, then select Unsubscribe and confirm. The confirmation screen shows the end date, and Amazon says cancelling doesn't refund earlier charges. The same goes for the BritBox bundles Amazon sells (MGM+, BBC Select or Wonder Project paired with BritBox, and the Amazon Super Bundle), for the Hallmark+ and BritBox bundle Amazon no longer sells, and for Premier bought through Amazon: Amazon handles all their cancellations. A BritBox free-trial link can open a Prime Video channel subscription even if you don't pay for Prime, as one r/BritBox user found in July 2026; it is still cancelled at Amazon.

Heads up: r/BritBox users report Amazon showing its own discount offer when they unsubscribe. Take it or decline it; either way, check Subscriptions afterwards for the end date.

  5. If this applies to you

If Apple, Roku or Google Play bills you

Apple: if you subscribed in the BritBox app on an iPhone or iPad, or through Apple TV Channels in the Apple TV app, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, BritBox and Cancel Subscription; for a free trial, Apple says to cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Roku: this covers BritBox on The Roku Channel, including its BBC Select and STARZ bundles with BritBox, and the BritBox app on Roku when you paid with your Roku account. Go to my.roku.com/subscriptions, select BritBox under Active subscriptions, then Manage subscription and Turn off auto-renew. On the TV, press Home, highlight the app, press the Star button, select Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew. Roku gives no partial-term refunds. Google Play: open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, BritBox and Cancel subscription. To switch from Roku to a direct plan, let the Roku period run out first: subscribers found britbox.com kept treating the account as Roku-billed until it did.

  6. If this applies to you

If you're on an annual plan or Premier

Cancelling an annual plan stops the next renewal and leaves you the rest of the year. Premier is sold yearly only, at $149.99, with no monthly option. If an annual plan renewed and you didn't mean it to, BritBox's refund policy says you can contact Customer Care to request a pro-rated refund for the unused time; where it applies, BritBox ends your access and refunds the remaining time, rounded down to the nearest month. That is a request, not a right: the Terms of Use say payments are nonrefundable with no refunds or credits for partially used periods, and the Premier article says there are no partial refunds if you cancel early. Ask soon after the renewal: the refund covers whole months only, so it shrinks with every month you wait. BritBox doesn't send renewal reminders in the US and Canada, so note the date. If you only want to pay less, Change plan under Plan & Billing moves annual to monthly or Premier to Standard, starting when the current term ends. BritBox can't pause a plan.

  7. If this applies to you

If you were given a gift subscription or a gift card

A BritBox gift subscription lasts 12 months from the day it's redeemed, and redeeming asks for a card. When the year is up, it renews as a paid plan on that card unless the recipient cancels first; BritBox recommends at least a day before. The recipient can cancel straight after redeeming and still keep the whole year: BritBox says they can cancel at any time and keep watching until the end of the subscription. One r/BritBox user who set up a gift for their mom in April 2026 confirmed "you still get your year of access this way", and noted the cancel page doesn't say so. A BritBox Gift Card ends the same way: once its balance is used up, renewals charge the card on file.

  8. If this applies to you

If you're charged after cancelling, or charged twice

First check the confirmation email and that Plan & Billing shows Reactivate subscription. A renewal on the day you cancelled may have gone through first, which is why BritBox asks for 24 hours. The other causes BritBox lists: a second subscription through Amazon, Apple or Roku, a second account under another email address, someone in your household signing up, or a recent plan change. A direct charge reads BritBox LLC New York, NY on your statement; Amazon, Apple, Google and Roku charges carry their own names. A small charge of about 1.00 is a preauthorization hold that drops off within a few business days. A replaced card can still be billed, because some banks pass the new card details on to subscriptions. For a direct plan, contact Customer Care by chat (24 hours a day, from the blue chat box on help.britbox.com), at support@britbox.com or through the request form, and ask by message if you want a phone call back. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel anything. Don't pay a "cancellation service" either: BritBox cancels for free, and one r/BritBox user said a search led to a site that charged for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be charged after canceling BritBox?

Not if you cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you've paid for, you keep watching until then, and the confirmation email gives your last day. BritBox doesn't send renewal reminders in the US and Canada, so check the date under Plan & Billing in My Account and put it in your calendar, especially on an annual plan. BritBox newsletters can keep coming after you cancel; that's normal, and the unsubscribe link in any of them stops them. If you pay through Amazon, Apple, Roku or Google Play, the cancellation has to happen there.

Can I get a refund from BritBox?

Usually not. BritBox's Terms of Use say payments are nonrefundable and there are no refunds or credits for partially used periods; you keep access to the end of the period instead. Its refund policy article adds two openings. If an annual plan renewed and you didn't mean it to, you can contact Customer Care to request a pro-rated refund; where it applies, BritBox ends your access and refunds the remaining time, rounded down to the nearest month. And Customer Care may give discretionary refunds case by case, typically for duplicate charges or technical problems that stop you watching. BritBox's Premier article says there are no partial refunds if you cancel Premier early, so expect a harder answer there. If Amazon, Apple, Roku or Google Play bills you, their refund rules apply and you ask them.

What happens to my watch history and watchlist?

BritBox's help centre doesn't say. A subscriber on r/BritBox posted Customer Care's answer in October 2026: BritBox keeps your watch history and recently watched shows with your account after you unsubscribe, and they should still be there when you reactivate on the same account. Other subscribers say their history was still there when they came back. It belongs to the account, though, so it doesn't carry across billing routes: a subscription through Amazon, Apple TV Channels or The Roku Channel can't be used at britbox.com at all, and starting a direct plan under a new email address starts a new account.

How do I cancel BritBox if I pay through Amazon, Apple, Roku or Google Play?

Cancel with whoever bills you; BritBox says it can't cancel partner subscriptions for you. Amazon: in Prime Video, Account & Settings, then Subscriptions, BritBox, Unsubscribe. Apple (the BritBox iPhone app or Apple TV Channels): Settings, your name, Subscriptions, BritBox, Cancel Subscription. Roku: my.roku.com/subscriptions, BritBox, Manage subscription, Turn off auto-renew. Google Play: Play Store, your profile icon, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, BritBox, Cancel subscription. Not sure who bills you? Your statement tells you: direct charges read BritBox LLC New York, NY, while partner charges carry names such as AMZN Digital, Apple.com/bill, GOOGLE BritBox or Roku for BritBox. If britbox.com tells you to go to the platform where you subscribed, that platform is the one.

Can I cancel BritBox during the free trial?

Yes. Standard comes with a 7-day free trial for most new subscribers in the US and Canada, once per account; Premier has no trial. Cancel the same way, at least 24 hours before the trial ends. The trial counts days, not hours, so the day you sign up counts as a full day. In Canada, cancelling during the trial ends your access straight away. A trial started through Amazon, Apple, Roku or Google Play is cancelled with them. A small charge of about 1.00 at sign-up is a preauthorization hold, not a payment, and drops off within a few business days.

Can I rejoin BritBox after canceling?

Yes. Before the paid period ends, sign in, open My Account and click Reactivate subscription under Plan & Billing, and the plan carries on. After it ends, sign in at britbox.com, pick a plan, click Continue and enter your card. There's no second free trial. Plenty of subscribers wait for a deal instead: r/BritBox users report emailed offers a few days to a few weeks after cancelling, and some found them in spam. To use a code before your cancelled plan runs out, BritBox says to click Reactivate subscription first and then Redeem Promo Code, or the code is rejected as invalid. Promo prices can renew at the regular rate, so check what the renewal will cost.
