Check which platform bills your c.ai+

Character.AI sells c.ai+ on the website (Stripe), the App Store, and Google Play. Check a recent receipt or bank/App Store statement: a Character.AI / Stripe charge means web billing; an Apple or Google Play receipt means the store owns the subscription. Cancel on the same platform that charges you — using the wrong path leaves the renewal running.

On the web: open Settings → Account → Manage

Sign in at character.ai, open Settings, then Account, then Manage. You should see your current plan. If a Manage button appears for a website subscription, use it. If the UI says the plan is managed by an app store, jump to the iPhone or Google Play steps below.

Open the Stripe Customer Portal from your email

Click Manage to start the Customer Portal flow. Enter the email address on your Character.AI account. Character.AI sends a secure link — open the email and click Log in to your Customer Portal. Check spam/junk if nothing arrives within a few minutes; the help center says to wait up to 5 minutes, confirm the address, and use "Use a different email" if needed. The portal only works for active subscriptions that were started on the website.

Cancel in the Customer Portal and verify the end date

In the Customer Portal, cancel the c.ai+ subscription and confirm. Official offer terms state cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and no partial refunds are issued for unused time. Note the date access ends, and watch the next statement so a promo that was supposed to stop does not renew at the standard rate.

On iPhone: open Settings → Manage Subscriptions

If you subscribed through the Character.AI iOS app, open the app Settings screen. Under c.ai+ Settings, tap Manage Subscriptions (credit-card icon). That row is the start of the cancel path — not C.ai+ Lab or App Icon above it.

Skip Upgrade to Yearly; tap Manage in System Settings

Manage Subscriptions shows Current Plan with c.ai+ subscription active and, when Apple bills you, Subscription managed through Apple. Below that is an Upgrade to Yearly and Save! card with an Upgrade to Yearly Plan button. Scroll past it and tap the plain Manage in System Settings link — that is the App Store cancel entry, not the yearly upgrade.

Cancel Subscription in Apple Settings

Manage in System Settings opens Apple's subscription manager (or go manually: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Character.AI / c.ai+). Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm. You keep c.ai+ until the end of the period Apple already charged. App Store refunds go through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com), not Character.AI support.

If you subscribed through Google Play

Same rule as iOS: Play Store owns the bill. Open Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Character.AI → Cancel subscription, or use play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Character.AI's website Customer Portal will not cancel a Play-billed plan. Play refunds follow Google's process.

Don't delete your account to stop billing

Canceling c.ai+ turns off renewal and drops you to Free after the paid period ends. Deleting the account is a different flow (web: Profile Settings → Account → Manage Account & Data → Delete Account; mobile: Remove Account) and Character.AI says deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. If you only want to stop charges and keep chats on Free, cancel the subscription — do not delete the account.

Ask for a refund on the channel that charged you

Official terms: no partial refunds for unused time in a billing period. App Store and Play purchases must be refunded through Apple or Google after you cancel. For website/Stripe billing, follow the Help Center cancel/manage flow and contact support at support.character.ai if you need a billing dispute handled. Some users report discretionary full refunds from support after asking — that is not a published guarantee. EU/UK buyers may also have a 14-day statutory withdrawal right on a new distance contract, separate from Character.AI's "no partial refunds" wording.
