Quick answer

Sign in at grok.com, open Settings → Subscription, click Manage → Cancel subscription, then Cancel SuperGrok, and push past the benefits screen with Continue to cancel. You keep your plan until the end of the billing period — the Subscription tab flipping from "renews on" to "expires on" is your confirmation. Payments are non-refundable except where the law says otherwise, but xAI has a refunds team you can petition through support.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Open Settings, then the Subscription tab

Sign in at grok.com, click your profile avatar in the lower-left corner, and choose Settings. Open the Subscription tab — you'll see your plan name (SuperGrok, SuperGrok Lite, or SuperGrok Heavy), a "Your plan renews on [date]" line, the plan's benefits, and a Manage button on the right.

2

Click Manage, then Cancel subscription

The Manage button opens a small dropdown with two options: Upgrade and Cancel subscription. Click the red Cancel subscription.

The Manage dropdown expanded on the Grok Subscription tab, showing an Upgrade option and a red Cancel subscription option
3

Click Cancel SuperGrok in the Manage your subscription dialog

A "Manage your subscription" dialog opens showing your plan with an Active badge and your next billing date. Click Cancel SuperGrok — it's the plain-text button on the left. The dark, prominent button is "Get help with an issue", which opens support instead of canceling.

4

Push past the benefits screen with Continue to cancel

Grok asks "Are you sure you want to lose all your benefits?" and lists everything your plan includes. The dark "Keep" button (Keep SuperGrok, or Keep SuperGrok Lite) is the retention default; the cancellation continues through the smaller Continue to cancel link beside it.

5

Verify the "expires on" wording

Back on the Subscription tab, the line under your plan name now reads "Your plan expires on [date]" instead of "renews on". That one-word change is your proof the cancellation registered. You keep full plan access until that date, then drop to the free tier — no confirmation email is required.

If this applies to you

If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play

App-store subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, and grok.com can't cancel them. On iPhone or iPad: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Grok > Cancel Subscription. On Android: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Refunds for those charges also go through the store, not xAI.

If you signed up with Apple's "Hide My Email" and can't reach billing

A recurring trap: people who subscribed on the web using Apple's private relay email later can't open billing because login links go nowhere. Sign in with Apple itself — not by typing the relay address into the email or Google login — and the subscription reappears. If you're still locked out, contact support with your account details; they can escalate the cancellation to the billing team.

If you actually want money back, petition the refunds team

Canceling stops future billing but doesn't refund the current period — xAI's terms make payments non-refundable except where the law requires. For web subscriptions there's still a path: contact support with your account email and invoice number, and an agent escalates to xAI's internal refunds team. Approved refunds typically land in 5–10 business days. EU consumers have a stronger card: a 14-day right of withdrawal from signup, exercised by emailing support@x.ai.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and the "Your plan expires on [date]" line on the Subscription tab shows exactly when. You keep full plan access until then. If you're inside the 7-day $0 SuperGrok trial, cancel before the trial ends and the $30 charge never happens. One statement-vigilance note from xAI's own FAQ: large unexpected xAI invoices are usually a SuperGrok Heavy yearly renewal ($3,000), so check your subscription history before assuming an error.

By default no — xAI's terms state that "payments already made are non-refundable, except where required by law." In practice there's a request path: contact support with your account email and the invoice/receipt number, and your ticket gets escalated to xAI's internal refunds team; approved refunds typically reach your card in 5–10 business days. EU consumers can withdraw within 14 days of subscribing by emailing support@x.ai and get the payment back. App Store and Google Play purchases are refunded by Apple or Google, not xAI.

Your account, conversation history, and projects stay — canceling drops you to the free tier, it doesn't delete anything. What you lose on the expiry date is the paid capacity: the bigger weekly usage pool, faster responses, Grok Imagine generation limits, and longer conversations. Deleting your account is a separate action at accounts.x.ai (restorable for 30 days), not part of canceling.

The store that billed you is the only place that can cancel it. On iPhone or iPad: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Grok > Cancel Subscription. On Android: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions > Grok > Cancel. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for, and refund requests for those charges go through Apple or Google's own flows.

No. X Premium and Premium+ are separate subscriptions sold by X Corp that happen to include Grok access — they're not managed from grok.com. Cancel them from your X account's Premium settings, and any refund request goes through X's refund form, not xAI. Canceling a SuperGrok plan on grok.com won't touch an X Premium subscription, and vice versa.

Yes. Until your expiry date you can reverse course from Settings → Subscription → Manage, and after the plan lapses you can re-upgrade from the same place — your chats and account carry over. Two footnotes: any Extra Usage Credits you bought are separate from the subscription and expire a year after purchase, and xAI's terms promise 30 days' notice before any price increase, so a returning price may differ from the one you left.
