Quick answer

Sign in at app.leonardo.ai, click the Settings icon in the bottom-left sidebar, open Subscription and Billing, then click Cancel Plan, Proceed with Cancellation, and Confirm. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period — but every unused token, including your rollover bank, expires the day the cancellation takes effect, so spend them first.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Spend your remaining tokens before you cancel

Canceling doesn't end your plan immediately — you keep access and your tokens until your next renewal date. On that date, every unused token expires: your monthly fast tokens and everything saved in your Rollover Bank. Generate, upscale, or train models with them now, because none of it carries over to the free tier.

2

Open Settings in the Leonardo web app

Go to app.leonardo.ai in a browser and sign in. Click the Settings icon in the bottom-left sidebar of the home page. You can't cancel from inside the iOS or Android app if you subscribed there — that path goes through Apple or Google (see below).

3

Open Subscription and Billing

Under Workspace Settings in the left panel, click Subscription and Billing. The page shows Your Plan with two buttons — Change Plan and Cancel Plan — plus Top-Up Tokens and Payment Details.

4

Click Cancel Plan

Under Your Plan, click the Cancel Plan button (marked with an X). Don't click Change Plan — that switches you to a different paid tier and keeps billing you.

5

Skip the "Consider Pausing Your Subscription?" offer

A modal warns that you'll lose premium access on your renewal date, forfeit all rollover tokens in your bank, and lists the features you're giving up with red X marks. It offers two buttons: Pause for 3 months and Proceed with Cancellation. To cancel, click the red Proceed with Cancellation button.

6

Confirm the cancellation

A second modal titled Confirm Cancellation summarizes the change: your plan moves to Free ($0/month) and your Rollover Bank capacity goes away. It also notes your current billing cycle stays unchanged and you keep all premium features until it ends. Click Confirm to finish.

7

Verify your plan shows the change to Free

Back on the Subscription and Billing page, look for the message "Your plan will change to Free on [date]". That message is your confirmation the cancellation went through — if you don't see it, you're still subscribed and will be billed again on your renewal date.

If you see a "Failed to cancel subscription" error

The cancel request can fail with a red error toast in the bottom-right corner. Check that the correct workspace is selected in the sidebar and that it actually has an active paid plan, then refresh the page and try again. If it keeps failing, open the support chat bubble, click "Talk to a person", or email support@leonardo.ai before your renewal date — and mention the error so the cancellation is backdated to your request.

If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play

Subscriptions bought inside the Leonardo mobile app are billed by Apple or Google, and the web app's Cancel Plan button doesn't control them. On iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Leonardo. On Android: Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. One caution: an App Store subscription is tied to your Apple ID, which may not be the Google or email account you use to sign in to Leonardo — cancel it from the Apple ID that was charged.

If your team already pays for Canva Business

Canva has owned Leonardo since 2024, and Leonardo's pricing page marks the Essential plan as included with Canva Business. If you're paying for both a Canva Business seat and a standalone Leonardo Essential subscription, the standalone one may be redundant — check what your Canva plan already covers before renewal.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — canceling stops the auto-renewal, and you keep full access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. Do verify the "Your plan will change to Free on [date]" message appears on the Subscription and Billing page, though: Reddit has scattered reports of people who thought they'd canceled and were billed again. If a charge lands after your end date, contact support with the date you canceled.

Not for changing your mind — Leonardo's refund policy (built on Australian Consumer Law) explicitly excludes it. Refunds are granted for things like major faults, persistent technical issues, or tokens that were never delivered, and every request is assessed manually by a human agent. To ask, click "Talk to a person" in the support chat, email support@leonardo.ai, or use the contact form with "Billing" as the reason. If you're in the EU or UK, local consumer law may give you additional rights the policy doesn't mention.

You keep your tokens until your next renewal date — then every unused token expires, including your Rollover Bank, and top-up tokens become unusable because they require an active subscription. Your generated images stay in your library, and images you created while subscribed remain yours (paid subscribers keep full ownership). Anything you generate afterward on the free tier is public and falls under the free-tier license, where Leonardo retains broad rights and you get a royalty-free commercial license.

Cancel through the store that bills you — the web app can't do it. iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Leonardo. Android: Google Play > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. The subscription is attached to the Apple ID or Google account that made the purchase, which isn't always the account you log in to Leonardo with, so check the device that's actually being charged. Refunds for store purchases are handled by Apple or Google, not Leonardo.

Yes — the cancel flow offers "Pause for 3 months", and Leonardo's terms allow pausing for up to three months per subscription period. You aren't charged while paused (billing is reduced pro-rata), but you also can't use the service during the pause, and the subscription resumes afterward. It's worth taking if you're coming back; it's not a substitute for canceling if you're done.

Yes, anytime — open Subscription and Billing and pick a plan. Expired tokens don't come back, and there's no free trial on consumer plans, so returning means paying from day one. If you subscribed years ago, note the plan names changed: Apprentice, Artisan, and Maestro are now Essential ($12/mo), Premium ($30/mo), and Ultimate ($60/mo), with yearly billing up to 20% cheaper.
