Quick answer

In the Blinkist app, go to Settings > Manage subscription and tap the red Cancel free trial (or Cancel subscription) link, then tap Continue to cancel through a survey and two save screens. Cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or billing period ends or the next charge goes through. Billed by Apple or Google instead? The store owns the cancellation — use your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. Subscribed on blinkist.com? Cancel in your account settings, and remember the 14-day money-back guarantee on first purchases.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Open Settings and tap Cancel free trial

In the Blinkist app, open Settings and scroll to the "Manage subscription" section. It shows your plan status and the date your subscription starts or renews. Tap the red "Cancel free trial" link — on a paid plan it reads "Cancel subscription."

2

Pick a reason and tap Continue to cancel

A "Sorry to see you go" sheet asks why you're canceling, with options from "The content isn't for me" to "It's too expensive." The "Continue to cancel" button stays greyed out until you pick one — any answer works and none of them changes the process.

3

Get past the "losing access together" screen

Next, Blinkist reminds you that the person on your free second Premium account loses access too, and that you'll drop to one pre-selected book a day. The big solid button, "Keep for us both," keeps the subscription — tap the plain "Continue to cancel" link under it instead.

4

Turn down the discount offer

The last screen asks "Would a discount help?" and offers a steep cut — 40% off the year in this flow (Reddit users report 30% variants). "Claim my discount" swaps you onto the cheaper plan and keeps you subscribed; tap "Continue to cancel" below it to finish.

5

Verify the status says you won't be charged

Back in Settings, the Manage subscription section should now read "Your free trial expires on [date]. You will not be charged," and the red link changes to "Reactivate membership." You keep full access until that date.

If this applies to you

If Apple bills your subscription

Subscriptions bought inside the iOS app are billed by Apple, and Blinkist says the cancellation is "managed entirely by the respective App Store." Open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, select Blinkist, and tap Cancel Subscription (it reads "Cancel Free Trial" during a trial). Apple's cutoff is the same: more than 24 hours before renewal.

If you subscribed on an Android device

Google Play owns the billing: open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then "Payments and subscriptions" > "Subscriptions," select Blinkist, and tap Cancel subscription.

If you subscribed on blinkist.com

Web purchases bill your card or PayPal directly, so they never appear in Apple or Google settings. Sign in at blinkist.com, open your account settings, and switch off the automatic renewal. If no cancel option shows up, you're probably logged into a free Basic account — log out and back in with the email attached to your subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not if you canceled at least 24 hours before your renewal or trial-end date — that's Blinkist's explicit cutoff across web, Apple, and Google billing. Cancellation never ends access immediately: you keep Premium or Pro until the end of the period you've paid for (or until the trial expires), then drop to the free tier. Cancel inside the final 24 hours and the next charge usually still goes through — users on Apple's forums report being billed after a last-day trial cancellation. One Google Play quirk: a pre-authorization hold can appear before a trial converts even after you cancel; it's not a real charge, but it can take up to 14 business days to disappear.

If you bought on blinkist.com or through Google Play: yes, within the first 14 days of your initial purchase — email support@blinkist.com and they'll cancel and refund under the 14-day money-back guarantee. It applies to first-time purchases only, never renewals. Apple App Store purchases are the exception: Blinkist explicitly cannot guarantee those — you request through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) and Apple alone decides. Reddit users report Apple denying Blinkist refund requests twice over, so don't count on that route. Germany-based subscribers get extra rights: after the first year, an annual plan can be canceled anytime with one month's notice and a pro-rated refund.

Your account survives — canceling only switches off auto-renewal. When the paid period ends you drop to the Free Basic plan: one pre-selected "Blink of the Day" (in the app or at blinkist.com/daily) and no access to your saved library, downloads, or the 9,000+ title catalog. Blinkist's own cancel screen puts it plainly: "no access to your saved content, just 1 pre-selected book each day." Your saved titles and highlights stay attached to the account and come back if you resubscribe. If someone shares your Premium via the free second account, they lose access the same day you do.

The store that billed you owns the cancellation — Blinkist support can't switch off an Apple or Google renewal for you. Apple: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Blinkist > Cancel Subscription. Google: Play Store > profile icon > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions > Blinkist > Cancel. Not sure who bills you? Check where the charge appears: an Apple receipt or "APPLE.COM/BILL" line means Apple, "GOOGLE*Blinkist" means Play, and a direct "Blinkist" card or PayPal charge means you subscribed on the website and cancel at blinkist.com instead.

Yes, and you keep full Premium access for the rest of the trial after canceling. Blinkist's trial comes attached to the yearly plan, so an uncanceled trial converts into a full year's charge — not a month. The timing rule is strict: cancel up to 24 hours before the trial ends and no charge goes through; cut it closer and you're likely paying for the year, with refunds then at Apple's discretion if you subscribed via the App Store. Cancel a day or two early, not at the deadline.

Yes. In the app the cancel link flips to "Reactivate membership"; on the web you reactivate in account settings, and Apple or Google subscriptions restart from the store's subscription screen. Your library and highlights are waiting either way. On price: Blinkist discounts aggressively — the cancel flow itself offers 30–40% off, the website auto-applies ~20% first-year coupons, and seasonal sales run deeper. If you're undecided, canceling and waiting usually beats renewing at the standard rate. Any discounted plan still auto-renews at that price until you cancel it.
