Quick answer

Sign in at masterclass.com/settings, scroll to the Membership section, click Cancel Membership, then click Cancel Now to skip MasterClass's Cancellation Options save panel. You keep access through your renewal date — MasterClass does not refund partial periods, but if you're still within 30 days of your original purchase, chat with support first to invoke the 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee for a full refund instead.

MasterClass was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Check if you're still within 30 days of your first purchase

MasterClass's 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee covers a full refund on your original transaction — but only if you chat with support to request it, not if you just click Cancel. If it's been less than 30 days since your first-ever MasterClass purchase, open the chatbot in the bottom-right corner of any help page and ask for a refund under the guarantee before you cancel.

2

Sign in to MasterClass on the web

Open masterclass.com in a browser and sign in. Cancellation is web-only — the iOS and Android apps do not expose a cancel option, and MasterClass's help center is explicit that "cancellations cannot be made through the MasterClass app." On mobile, use a browser and ignore the "Go to the App" prompt.

3

Open Settings from your profile menu

Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of the site, then choose Settings. You'll land on the Account Settings page, which lists Profile, Password, Payment Info, and Membership sections.

4

Find the Membership section and click Cancel Membership

Scroll down to the Membership block. It shows your current plan, next renewal date, and a Cancel Membership button. Click it.

5

Skip the Cancellation Options save panel — click Cancel Now

MasterClass now shows a full-page save offer: "You still have N days of learning from the world's best" alongside a Cancellation Options panel with three buttons — Keep My Membership, Remind Me To Cancel, and Cancel Now. Click Cancel Now. The panel notes that your cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period.

6

Pick a cancellation reason (optional)

You're taken to a "Sorry to see you go" page confirming your membership has been cancelled and asking why. The six radio options range from "Not enough content that interests me" to "Too expensive for how much I use it" and "Do not enjoy the online learning experience," plus Other. This is a feedback survey — your cancellation is already registered.

7

Add written feedback or skip (optional)

Selecting any option except Other reveals a "What could we change for you to reconsider?" text box. Both the reason and the free-text field are optional — MasterClass uses them for product decisions, not to complete your cancellation. Click Send Feedback if you want to submit, or just leave the page.

Verify the "Subscription Cancelled" confirmation

A final screen headed SUBSCRIPTION CANCELLED / Thank you for your feedback! confirms the cancellation is complete. MasterClass also sends a confirmation email — if it hasn't arrived within 24 hours, log back into Settings to check your Membership section still shows the cancellation.

If this applies to you

If you subscribed through Apple, Google, Amazon, or Roku

MasterClass's Settings page won't show a Cancel Membership button when a third party handles billing. Cancel through whichever marketplace charges you: iPhone — Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > MasterClass > Cancel Subscription; Google Play — play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions; Amazon — Your Memberships & Subscriptions; Roku — the Roku channel store's Manage Subscriptions page. Per MasterClass's Terms of Service Section 3.3, MasterClass cannot process refunds for those purchases — refund requests go to the marketplace directly.

If this applies to you

If you bought a MasterClass gift subscription for someone else

This is the most-reported billing surprise on r/MasterClass: when you buy a gift, your payment method is enrolled in auto-renewal for the recipient's account. A year later you get charged for a fresh annual subscription — typically $180–$240 depending on the tier the gift was for — often with no advance email. To stop it, log into the gift-purchaser's account (not the recipient's), open Settings > Membership, and cancel from there. Third-party cancellation services like Rocket Money, Trim, or Xpendy are explicitly rejected — MasterClass requires the account holder to confirm directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

No new charges once your cancellation is confirmed. Your subscription stays active through the end of your current billing period — MasterClass's Terms of Service Section 3.3 confirms "you will continue to have access to the service through the end of your current subscription period." The exact end date is shown on the Cancellation Options panel before you confirm and in your confirmation email afterward.

MasterClass's 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee covers a full refund within 30 days of your **initial** subscription purchase — first-time purchases on masterclass.com only, not renewals, redeemed gifts, or MasterClass At Work accounts. Renewal charges are officially non-refundable per Terms of Service Section 2.7, but the r/MasterClass corpus documents a working informal path: chat with support, cite the California Automatic Renewal Law (Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code §17600) if you're a CA resident who didn't receive a renewal reminder, and mention you're prepared to file a bank or PayPal dispute. Users report full refunds through this route in minutes. EU and UK subscribers have a mandatory 14-day right of withdrawal under consumer law regardless of MasterClass's policy. Approved refunds take 5–10 business days to process.

You keep access to every class in the MasterClass catalog until your billing period ends. Downloaded lessons in the MasterClass mobile app stop playing on the cancellation effective date because they require an active subscription. Your account, watch history, saved classes, and any Certificates you earned remain — if you rejoin later, everything is restored by signing back in with the same email.

Cancel through the marketplace itself, not MasterClass's website — the web Cancel Membership button won't appear when billing is handled by a third party. iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > MasterClass > Cancel Subscription. Google Play: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Amazon: Your Memberships & Subscriptions > MasterClass > Actions > End Subscription. Roku: My Account > Manage Subscriptions. Refund requests also go to the marketplace — MasterClass's Terms of Service disclaim responsibility for third-party refunds.

Yes, unless you cancel it. Gift subscriptions enroll the **purchaser's** payment method in auto-renewal for the recipient's account when the gift period ends. This is the highest-signal complaint on r/MasterClass — buyers routinely report surprise $180–$240 renewal charges for gifts they gave a year earlier. To stop it, sign into the gift-purchaser account (not the recipient's), open Settings > Membership, and cancel there. Gift subscription terms are governed by MasterClass's separate Gift Subscription Terms and Conditions, which are incorporated by reference into the main Terms of Service.

Yes. Sign back into masterclass.com/settings at any time and click Reactivate in your Membership section — MasterClass preserves your account, watch history, saved classes, and any Certificates you earned. Restarting picks up whichever plan is active at the current published rate, which may differ from what you originally paid. MasterClass occasionally emails returning-customer discounts, so if the reason for canceling wasn't urgent, waiting a couple of weeks can save 25–50% on the reactivation.
