Quick answer

Twist has no separate "cancel membership" button — you stop Unlimited by switching the team to Free. As a team admin, open twist.com, go to Settings & Members → Billing → View billing details, click Switch to the Free plan, then Confirm this change. The team drops to Free immediately (not at the end of the billing period), and history older than one month becomes unviewable until you upgrade again.

Twist was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Check history and admin access before you switch

Canceling Twist Unlimited means switching the team to the Free plan right away — there is no "keep Unlimited until next bill" grace period. On Free, threads and messages older than about one month stop being viewable or searchable (Twist still stores them; Unlimited brings them back). Only a team admin can change billing. If you are not an admin, ask whoever owns the team to run these steps.

2

Open Settings & Members → Billing

Sign in to Twist in a web browser. Click your team name in the top-left corner, then choose Settings & Members. In the team section of the Settings sidebar, click Billing. You should see a teal View billing details button (paid teams also show Manage payment method, Manage billing information, and View invoices).

3

Click View billing details

Click View billing details to open the team billing page (Overview). Confirm you are on Twist Unlimited and note the next bill date and seat count — that is the paid state you are leaving.

4

Click Switch to the Free plan

Scroll to Billing actions at the bottom of the Overview tab. Click Switch to the Free plan — that is the cancel path. Ignore Switch to Paying Annually if your goal is to stop paying; that only changes the billing cycle.

5

Read the credit warning and confirm

A Switch to the Free plan modal opens. It shows how much your account will be credited and warns that outstanding invoices must be paid before you can cancel. Optionally type a reason in Your reason for downgrading, then click Confirm this change.

6

Verify you are on Twist Free

The Overview page should show a green banner: You've successfully changed your team's plan. The current plan reads Twist Free, and Unlimited appears below as an upgrade pitch. Billing has stopped for Unlimited seats — the Free plan stays free forever with the one-month history limit.

Want Unlimited until period end instead of immediate Free?

Twist's help center documents a separate path: Billing → View billing details → Payment methods → hover your card → Delete → OK. That removes the card so auto-renewal stops while you keep Unlimited for the rest of the paid cycle. It is not the same as Switch to the Free plan — use it only if you want to finish the prepaid period first.

Within 30 days of purchase: cancel, then ask for a cash refund

If you bought Unlimited within the last 30 days, switch to Free first (steps above), then contact Twist support to request a full refund. Mid-cycle self-serve cancel outside that window credits the team account; removing members after 30 days also becomes credit toward future charges, not a card refund.

If this applies to you

Switch to Free — do not delete the Twist account

Switching to Free stops Unlimited billing and keeps the workspace, channels, and recent history. Deleting a Twist account or team is a different, destructive action. If your only goal is to stop paying, use Switch to the Free plan and leave the account alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

No new Unlimited charges after Confirm this change succeeds. Unlike many subscriptions, Twist does not leave you on Unlimited until the next bill date — the team moves to Free immediately. Any unused prepaid time for the current period is credited to the team account (visible on the billing Overview), not charged again.

If you cancel within 30 days of purchase, Twist's refund article says you are eligible for a full refund: switch to Free first, then contact support. Outside that window, the self-serve path refunds unused time as team account credits, not a card refund. Removing a member after the 30-day window also becomes credit toward future charges — Twist says they do not offer partial cash refunds for that case. EU/UK consumers may have a 14-day withdrawal right on new subscriptions under local law.

Nothing is deleted. On Free you keep using Twist with a searchable archive limited to about the last month (help articles say one month / 30 days). Older threads and messages stay on Doist's servers but cannot be viewed or searched until the team upgrades to Unlimited again — then full history returns immediately. Integrations and file-storage limits also drop to Free-tier caps.

Only a team admin can change billing or switch to Free. Regular members and guests do not see a working cancel path. Manage billing in a browser (Settings & Members → Billing → View billing details). Twist Unlimited for teams is billed by card on the web — there is no Apple App Store or Google Play cancel route for team Unlimited. If you cannot see Billing, ask the admin who pays for the team.

Immediately. Twist's Billing FAQ states that when you cancel Unlimited you are switched to Free right away, and the one-month history limit applies at that moment. If you specifically want to keep Unlimited until the paid period ends, use the help-center "cancel auto-renewal" path (delete the payment method) instead of Switch to the Free plan — then switch to Free later if you still want Free limits.

Yes. From the billing Overview on Free, upgrade back to Twist Unlimited (monthly or annual). When Unlimited is active again, the team regains full searchable history and Unlimited integrations/storage. Pricing (USD): $8 per user per month month-to-month, or $6 per user per month billed annually.
