How to Cancel Apple News+

Step-by-step instructions
Check whether you pay for Apple News+ directly or through Apple One
This decides everything that follows. Apple News+ costs $12.99 per month on its own, but it is also bundled into Apple One Premier at $39.95 per month. If you are on Premier, Apple already cancelled your standalone News+ subscription when your first bundle payment went through — so there is no Apple News row left to cancel, and hunting for one wastes your time. Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, and look at what is actually listed.
Open your Subscriptions list
The reliable route is Settings, then your name at the top, then Subscriptions. You can also get there from inside the News app: open the Following tab, scroll to the Manage section, and tap Subscriptions — but that link just hands you off to the same system sheet, so Settings is fewer taps and always works.
Tap the Apple News subscription
Look for <strong>Apple News</strong>, not "Apple News+". Apple lists the subscription under the app name, with Apple News+ shown underneath as the plan. Tapping it opens the Edit Subscription sheet, which shows your current status and renewal date.
Tap Cancel Subscription
Scroll to the bottom of the Edit Subscription sheet. On a paid plan the button reads <strong>Cancel Subscription</strong>. If you are still inside your first month it reads <strong>Cancel Free Trial</strong> instead — same button, very different consequences, which the next step covers.
Confirm, and know which outcome you are getting
Apple shows a <strong>Confirm Cancellation</strong> alert with Not Now and Confirm. What happens next depends entirely on your billing state. Cancelling a <strong>paid</strong> subscription is safe: you keep reading until your next billing date. Cancelling a <strong>trial</strong> is not — the alert spells it out: "Your service, including the remainder of your free trial, will end immediately. You cannot reactivate this trial."
Verify it is actually cancelled
Reopen the same sheet. A cancelled subscription shows its end date, and once it lapses you get red text reading "Your subscription has expired" with a Renew button in place of the cancel option. Apple is explicit that a missing Cancel button plus red expiry text means the job is done — that is confirmation, not a bug.
If Apple News+ came with Apple One Premier
You cannot cancel News+ on its own while it is bundled — it has no subscription row of its own. You have two ways out. Downgrade the bundle: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Apple One, then <strong>See All Plans</strong> and pick Family or Individual, both of which drop News+ while keeping Music, TV, Arcade and iCloud+. Or cancel Apple One outright — Apple then offers you the chance to keep any individual services you still want, billed separately, with your playlists and queues intact.
If you are on a Mac, PC, or would rather use a browser
On Mac: open the App Store, click your name in the sidebar, click Account Settings, scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage, then Cancel Subscription. On the web: sign in at account.apple.com and open the Subscriptions section. On Windows there is no News app, but the Apple Music or Apple TV app can manage the subscription — click your name, choose View My Account, then Manage next to Subscriptions.
If the subscription belongs to someone in your Family Sharing group
Apple does not let you cancel a family member's subscription — only the person whose Apple Account is billed can do it. To find out who that is, search your email for "receipt from Apple" and check which Apple Account is on the receipt. If it is a family member's, they have to run these steps themselves.
If you are in Germany, Israel, South Africa, or Türkiye
You have a stronger legal right than the standard flow gives you: Apple must let you cancel with immediate effect and issue a prorated refund for the unused part of the period, at any time. The in-app button still only stops the next renewal, so contact Apple Support directly and ask for immediate cancellation to use this right.
