Quick answer

Cancel on the platform you subscribed on, or the billing does not stop. If you subscribed in the iPhone app, tap the Pro badgeManage my subscriptionCancel Subscription, then check Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions to confirm Apple has actually ended it. If you subscribed on the web, cancel at app.photoroom.com → Space menu → Profile → Billing. Photoroom bills per Space, so check whether you are paying for more than one.

Photoroom was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Find out which platform is actually billing you

Photoroom sells the same subscription through four separate checkouts — the App Store, Google Play, its own web app (via Stripe), and Shopify — and each one is cancelled in a different place. Photoroom's help centre is blunt about what happens if you guess wrong: "Canceling on a different platform won't stop billing, and you'll continue to be charged." Check your original confirmation email, or log in at app.photoroom.com and open Space menu → Your Profile → Your Billing.

2

Open the Space you are actually paying for

Photoroom charges per Space, not per person — one Space, one subscription. Your plan only applies to the Space it was bought for, so open the Space menu at the top left and look at the labels: paid Spaces are tagged Pro, Max or Ultra, and free Spaces carry no label at all. Switch into the labelled one. The same badge appears in the top-right corner of the home screen, and that badge is your entry point.

3

Tap the Pro badge, then Manage my subscription

The plan sheet slides up headed "Pro Plan — Perfect for individuals", with a Pro / Max / Ultra selector and a line reading "You are on the Pro plan · Renews on [date]". Write that renewal date down. Below the benefits list are two buttons: the purple Unlock more, and the grey Manage my subscription. Tap Manage my subscription.

4

Choose Cancel Subscription, not Change Plan

A small menu pops up with three options: Change Plan, Cancel Subscription, and Request a refund. Tap Cancel Subscription.

5

Pick a cancellation reason

The screen reads "Sorry to see you leaving — Why are you canceling your subscription?" with seven options, from "I hit usage or credit limits too quickly" through "The price is too high" and "Unexpected charge" to "I prefer not to say". Tap one to continue.

Photoroom cancellation survey headed "Sorry to see you leaving / Why are you canceling your subscription?" listing seven tappable options: I hit usage or credit limits too quickly, I did not get enough value, The price is too high, The free tools are enough for my needs, Unexpected charge, Other, and I prefer not to say
6

Ignore the "how could we improve" box if you want to

Next comes a free-text screen: "Tell us how could we improve to make you stay", with an empty Write here... field. The Submit button underneath is greyed out until you type something, which makes the screen look like a wall. It is not one.

7

Submit your note, or tap I prefer not to say

Type anything and Submit turns solid purple and becomes tappable. Either route takes you to the same place, so pick whichever you prefer — the feedback is genuinely optional and does not change the outcome of the cancellation.

The same feedback screen with "Not have enough value using this tool" typed into the text box and the Submit button now solid purple and active, with I prefer not to say still available beneath it
8

Confirm past the "lose your benefits" screen

The last screen asks "Are you sure you want to lose your benefits?" and names the exact date your premium access ends, above a grid of the features you are giving up — AI Backgrounds, AI Shadows, Batch Mode, Resize Tool. Tap the quiet Cancel subscription at the very bottom. Do not tap the large purple Keep my subscription above it.

9

Verify in iPhone Settings that Apple has stopped billing

Do not skip this. Photoroom states plainly that it "can't cancel subscriptions on your behalf" and that "Photoroom can't access Apple orders" — so finishing the flow above is not proof the charge has stopped. Open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions and look for Photoroom. It should be gone, or listed as expired with an end date. If it is still showing as active and renewing, your subscription is billed by the App Store and you must cancel it there, using Apple's own instructions.

If this applies to you

If you subscribed on the web instead of in the app

Web subscriptions run through Stripe and are the only fully self-serve path. Log in at app.photoroom.com, select the Space carrying the subscription, then either Space menu → Profile → Billing or Manage Space → Billing. Find the active subscription, click Manage your subscription to load the Stripe portal, then click Cancel subscription and confirm. Go back to Billing afterwards — the subscription should read as canceled.

11
If this applies to you

If you subscribed through Google Play

Cancel in the Play Store, not in Photoroom: open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions, select Photoroom and cancel. Verify on the same screen — the subscription should disappear or show as expired. Photoroom cannot end a Google-billed subscription for you, and Google handles the refunds.

12
If this applies to you

If you bought Photoroom through Shopify

There is no self-serve cancel button for this one. Photoroom's instruction is to contact its support team from within the Shopify platform. Expect a reply in a few days rather than an instant cancellation, so raise it well before your renewal date rather than on it.

13
If this applies to you

If you are paying more than once, or plan to delete your account

Two traps worth checking. First, because billing is per Space, you can hold two live subscriptions at the same time — Photoroom's own example is "Ultra on Web and Max on mobile" for the same Space — and cancelling one leaves the other running. Audit the full list at app.photoroom.com → Your Profile → Your Billing. Second, deleting your Photoroom account does not cancel anything: the help centre carries an explicit warning that "deleting your account does not end your subscriptions", and Photoroom blocks the deletion outright with a "Your account could not be deleted" message while a plan is active. Cancel first, then delete.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not if you cancelled on the platform that actually bills you. Your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for — the exact end date is shown on the final confirmation screen — and there is no prorated refund for the unused remainder. The failure mode to watch for is cancelling in the wrong place: Photoroom warns that "canceling on a different platform won't stop billing, and you'll continue to be charged." If you subscribed on iPhone, the only screen that settles it is Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.

Sometimes, if you move fast — but Photoroom's two refund articles give different deadlines, so treat the shorter one as real. "Request a refund" says the window is 14 days for a monthly or yearly plan and 4 days for a weekly plan; "Refund policy and eligibility" says 7 days from your last payment. Both are current. Act within 4 days on a weekly plan and 7 days otherwise and you are inside either policy. Request it through the same channel you bought on: on iPhone, the Pro badge → Manage my subscription → Request a refund, or directly via Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are "not guaranteed", are unavailable to API users, and payouts run roughly 30 days for the App Store, 14 for Google Play and 10 for web. Photoroom cannot access or chase an Apple refund at all. EU and UK buyers additionally have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal on new distance-sold subscriptions.

Your Space and everything in it survive — designs, templates and saved assets stay where they are, and the Space simply reverts to free-tier features and the much smaller free AI credit allowance when the paid period ends. What you lose is capability, not content: batch exports, high-resolution exports, the advanced AI tools and the credit allowance all drop to free limits. If you want anything at full resolution, export it before the end date shown on the confirmation screen rather than after.

Through the store, not through Photoroom — the company states it "can't cancel subscriptions on your behalf" and "can't access Apple orders." On iPhone or iPad: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Photoroom → Cancel Subscription. On Android: Play Store app → profile icon → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions → Photoroom. Photoroom's in-app flow will still walk you through a reason survey and a confirmation screen, and it is worth completing, but the store screen is the one that stops the money. Check it afterwards: Photoroom should be absent or marked expired.

Yes, and unusually there is no penalty for doing it early. Photoroom's trial runs 7 days, and its help centre confirms that after you cancel "you'll continue to have access to subscription features until the free trial ends." That is the opposite of most services, which revoke trial benefits the moment you confirm. So cancel on day one if you want — you keep the full 7 days either way, and you remove the risk of forgetting. Note that trials are offered when you subscribe "for the first time", so this is not a card you get to play twice.

Yes, at any time, and your Space and designs are still there waiting. Two things to know before you count on it. Photoroom states that "if you cancel and later resubscribe, you will pay the current price at that time" — so any older or promotional rate you were on does not come back. And because free trials are a first-time offer, resubscribing means paying from day one. If you are only pausing for a quiet month, weigh that against the annual plan: on Pro, the $5.99-a-week iOS option bills 52 times a year and comes to $311.48, against $89.99 for the same access billed once.
