Step-by-step instructions

Sign in and open the Billing page

Go to your Canny admin panel and navigate to Settings → Billing. You'll see your current plan, billing date, and payment method. If you're on a trial, a banner at the top shows how many days remain.

Click "End trial"

Next to "Trialing: [Plan Name]", click the End trial link. Canny checks whether your workspace uses any paid-only features that the Free plan doesn't support. If it finds blockers, they appear in a list below — you'll need to resolve each one before continuing.

Resolve feature blockers

The most common blocker is Private Boards — the Free plan only supports public boards. Click Switch to public next to the Private Boards row. Other paid features like Custom Domains, Internal Comments, and Custom Statuses are removed automatically — no action needed.

Confirm board visibility change

A confirmation dialog asks "Are you sure you want to make all of your boards public?" Click Yes to proceed. This clears the feature blocker and unlocks the accept button.

Click "ACCEPT AND END TRIAL"

With all blockers resolved, Canny shows a clean list of features you'll lose — Custom Domain, Custom Statuses, Disabling Posts from Users, Internal Comments, Priority Support, Private Boards, Private Changelog, Private Comments, User Segmentation, Post Automation, and Moderation Tools. Click ACCEPT AND END TRIAL to confirm.

Verify your trial has ended

The trial banner disappears and the Free plan shows a checkmark. Your workspace is now on the Free plan with a 25-tracked-user limit. All your posts, votes, and feedback data are preserved — nothing is deleted.

If this applies to you

If you're on a paid plan (not a trial)

Paid Pro or legacy plan subscribers cancel from the End Subscription section at the very bottom of the Billing page. Click "Contact us to cancel your subscription" or follow the on-screen prompts — select a cancellation reason, add comments, then click Cancel subscription. Your access continues through the end of your current billing cycle.

If this applies to you

Delete your workspace (if you want full removal)

Canceling your plan does not delete your Canny workspace or data. If you want everything removed, follow Canny's separate "Deleting a Workspace" guide in the help center after canceling. This is irreversible — export any data you need first via the Canny API.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you're ending a free trial, no — you were never charged and won't be. If you're canceling a paid plan, Canny won't bill you again after cancellation. Paid plan access continues through the end of your current billing cycle. One important detail: if you entered a credit card during a trial and don't cancel before it expires, Canny will automatically charge the card and move you to the paid plan.

Canny's Terms of Service state that refund requests "may be considered on a case-by-case basis and granted in sole discretion of Canny Inc." There's no guaranteed refund policy. However, Canny does prorate plan changes — if you downgrade mid-cycle, you're only billed for the time on the higher plan. Contact support@canny.io to request a refund.

All your posts, votes, comments, and feedback boards are preserved when you cancel or downgrade to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted. Your workspace stays accessible at your subdomain (yourcompany.canny.io). To permanently remove everything, you'd need to follow Canny's separate workspace deletion process — that's irreversible.

Yes. Canny's 14-day trial does not require a credit card, so there's nothing to charge in most cases. If you did add a card, cancel (end the trial) before the 14 days expire to avoid an automatic charge. Ending the trial drops you to the Free plan immediately — no waiting for a billing cycle to finish.

Yes. Your workspace and all feedback data remain intact on the Free plan. You can upgrade back to Pro or Business at any time from the Billing page — just select the plan and add a payment method. There's no penalty or data loss for re-subscribing.

Business plan customers can't self-serve cancel through the Billing page. Contact your dedicated account manager, start a live chat (click the "Talk to a person" button), or email success@canny.io to arrange the cancellation.
