A 10-step walkthrough with real screenshots from the live cancel flow.
Sign in at dovetail.com/settings/billing, click the ••• menu next to Change plan, select Cancel plan, pick a reason, type DELETE to confirm, then click Cancel subscription. You keep access until the end of your billing period — Dovetail does not offer refunds, and your data is deleted 30 days after that.
The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.
No bank login.
Wondering if you're paying more than you used to? the price you used to pay vs the price you pay now.
See Dovetail's pricing, tiers, and difficulty score in one page. Dovetail ranks #9 of 235 by cancellation difficulty.
Open dovetail.com and sign in to the workspace you want to cancel. You need to be a workspace admin — other roles can't access billing or cancel a subscription.
Click the ☰ menu icon in the top-left corner, then click ⋯ More → Settings. In the left sidebar, select Billing. You'll see your current plan, renewal date, payment method, and upcoming invoice.
Next to the Change plan button in the "Your plan" section, click the ••• (three-dot) menu. Select Cancel plan from the dropdown.
A modal appears with two options: Change plan (keep access, keep data) and Cancel (lose access, data deleted after 30 days). The Cancel card states the exact date you'll keep access until. Click Cancel subscription.
Dovetail asks why you're canceling. Click the Select dropdown to see five categories — Missing features, Switching to another tool, Had a bad experience, Budget has been cut, and Project finished — each with sub-options. You can also choose "Type your own reason." A reason is required to proceed.
After selecting a reason, a "Tell us more" textarea appears with a 20-character minimum. Below that, you must type DELETE in the confirmation field to acknowledge your data will be deleted 30 days after your billing period ends. Both fields are required.
Once you've filled in the feedback and typed DELETE, the red Cancel subscription button becomes active. Click it. You'll also see a "Change plan instead" button — ignore it if you want to fully cancel.
You're returned to the Billing page where your plan now reads "Upcoming cancelation" instead of the renewal date. A Reactivate button replaces the Change plan button, and a toast notification confirms "Your subscription has been canceled." You can keep using Dovetail until the billing period ends.
After your billing period ends, your workspace enters a 30-day read-only state. You can still export projects, notes, highlights, and tags during this window. After 30 days, all data is permanently deleted. Don't wait — export everything you need as soon as possible.
The in-product cancel flow only works for self-serve Professional plans. If your workspace is on a Business or Enterprise plan, you must contact your assigned Customer Success Manager to cancel. If you don't know your CSM, reach out to Dovetail's support team.
RecurDash keeps track of what you're paying for and emails you before each renewal — so the next cancellation happens on your schedule, not after the charge. No bank login required.
