Step-by-step instructions

1

Back up your content and manage student subscriptions

Before canceling, download any course content you don't have stored elsewhere, export your student list and emails from the Users page, and export sales records for your business needs. If you have students with active subscriptions or payment plans, review them on the Sales page — canceling your plan does not automatically stop student billing.

2

Go to Settings > Billing

Sign in to your Teachable school admin. In the left sidebar under Settings, click Billing. You'll see your current plan, usage stats, payment details, and the Manage Plan button in the top-right corner.

3

Click Manage Plan, then Cancel Plan

Click the Manage Plan dropdown in the top-right corner. You'll see three options: Change plan, Apply coupon, and Cancel plan. Click Cancel plan (shown in red).

4

Choose a cancellation reason

Teachable asks "What is the main reason why you are cancelling?" Select a reason from the dropdown (options include "I no longer need this account", pricing concerns, and more). You're also asked whether Teachable can reach out about your feedback — select Yes or No. Click Continue cancelling plan at the bottom right.

5

Skip the free month save offer

Teachable pitches a retention offer: "How about one month free?" with a Claim offer button that extends your current plan by 30 days at no charge. If you want to cancel, ignore it and click Continue cancelling plan at the bottom right.

6

Review what changes and click Cancel Plan

The final screen warns that your school will be downgraded and details what you'll lose: your published product limits drop, student capacity shrinks, and paid features deactivate at the end of your billing cycle. Read the warning, then click Cancel plan at the bottom right to confirm.

7

Verify the cancellation banner

You're returned to the Billing page. A yellow banner at the top confirms the exact date your plan will end and includes a Resume subscription link. Your paid features remain active until that date. The Payment Details section now shows "Next payment date: Cancelled."

Cancel active student subscriptions from the Sales page

Canceling your school plan does not stop student billing. Active student subscriptions continue for up to 30 days after your plan ends, and students may still be charged. Go to the Sales page in your admin to manually cancel each active subscription or payment plan. Skip this if you have no paying students.

Request a refund within 30 days

Teachable offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on new plan signups and upgrades. Refunds are not self-service — you must contact support at billing@teachable.com or through the Help section form with your school URL, billing date, cancellation date, and account email. The 30-day window starts from your most recent plan purchase or upgrade.

Delete your school and account if you're done for good

Canceling your plan keeps your school data intact but offline. If you want everything permanently removed, first delete any custom domains (Settings > Domains), then contact Teachable support to delete your school and account. Deletion is irreversible — you lose access to all courses, students, and sales records permanently.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Once you cancel, Teachable won't bill you again for your school plan. Your paid features remain active until the end of your current billing cycle. However, if you have active student subscriptions, those follow their own billing cycles and may continue for up to 30 days — you must cancel them separately from the Sales page.

Teachable offers a 30-day refund guarantee on new plan signups and upgrades, for both monthly and annual subscriptions. Refunds must be requested in writing by contacting support at billing@teachable.com. Teachable reserves the right to deny refunds for abuse (repeated requests across multiple schools or consecutive months). There is no self-service refund button — you must go through support.

Your school goes offline at the end of your billing cycle. Course content, videos, customizations, and student data remain intact but inaccessible — you can't edit, publish, or enroll new students. If you re-upgrade to a paid plan later, everything is restored. Teachable does not guarantee indefinite content preservation, so back up anything important before canceling. Content is only permanently deleted if you explicitly request school or account deletion.

Canceling your school plan does not automatically cancel active student subscriptions. Student subscriptions follow their own billing cycles and continue for up to 30 days after your plan ends. To stop student charges sooner, manually cancel active subscriptions from the Sales page in your school admin.

Yes. Teachable offers a 7-day free trial on all paid plans. Cancel from Settings > Billing > Manage Plan > Cancel Plan before the trial ends to avoid being charged. If you miss the window, you're eligible for the 30-day refund guarantee — contact support to request it.

Yes. If you haven't reached your plan end date yet, click Resume subscription in the yellow cancellation banner on your Billing page to reverse the cancellation. If your plan has already ended and your school is offline, go to Settings > Billing and select a new paid plan to reactivate. Your content and settings are preserved, but any student subscriptions that were canceled must be re-purchased by students to resume payments.
