Quick answer

In the Cleo app, open your profile, tap Subscriptions and then Unsubscribe from Cleo Plus. On Builder, scroll to Manage Cleo Builder, tap Unsubscribe, then Unsubscribe from Cleo Builder: because Builder also closes your Cleo Card, you then tick both Before you cancel boxes, verify your phone by text, pick the bank account for any money left on the card and tap Close my account. Your plan runs to the end of the month you paid for, and a refund only comes inside the 27-day Grace Period in Cleo's terms. If the app won't let you cancel, email team@meetcleo.com.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Open Subscriptions and tap Unsubscribe

In the Cleo app, open your profile and tap Subscriptions. On Plus, tap Unsubscribe from Cleo Plus. On Builder, scroll down to Manage Cleo Builder and tap Unsubscribe, then tap the Unsubscribe from Cleo Builder button on the top card of the Builder no longer for you? screen. Cleo's help center says typing cancel in the chat walks you through the same unsubscribe process.

Tick both Before you cancel boxes, then tap Proceed

On Builder a sheet asks Have direct deposits with Cleo? and warns that your paycheck will bounce back to your employer unless you cancel the direct deposit with them. Cleo can't move it for you, so tell your employer or payer where to send your pay and let any pending card transactions finish or cancel them first. Then tick I've cancelled direct deposits to Builder and I've cancelled pending transactions, and tap Proceed once it turns dark.

Pick a reason and tap Next

Cleo asks What's the main reason you're cancelling? with five answers, from I'm unhappy with the cash advances to Cleo feels too expensive and Other. Next stays greyed out until you choose one, so pick whichever fits.

If this applies to you

If Cleo asks a follow-up question, tick an answer and tap Continue

In the captured flow, answering I'm not using cash advances right now led to a second screen, What's different about your situation now?, with tick boxes such as My financial situation got better and I want to stop using cash advances. Tick one and tap Continue.

5

Verify your identity with a text code

Builder then shows Cancel your builder account, a checklist of three items: Verify your identity, Transfer balance and Acknowledge the closure terms. Tap Verify your identity, enter your phone number, tick the box that lets Cleo use your mobile carrier and other third-party sources to verify you, tap Send me the code and type the four-digit code from the text.

Tap Transfer balance and pick your bank account

Choose account asks which bank account you want to move your money back to. Pick one of your linked accounts, or tap Add another account, then tap Next. The fine print says Cleo works with Thread Bank and Plaid to send any money left on your card to that account by ACH transfer.

On Plus or Pro, there is no card to close

Cleo's Plus help article lists three taps: your profile, Subscriptions, Unsubscribe from Cleo Plus. The checklist, text code and balance transfer above belong to closing the Cleo Card, which only Builder includes. Pro has no cancel article of its own, but the terms' two routes, typing cancel in the app or emailing team@meetcleo.com, cover every plan.

If this applies to you

If the app won't let you cancel, email team@meetcleo.com

Section 6.2.3 of Cleo's terms says you can cancel at any time by emailing team@meetcleo.com. Write from the email on your Cleo account, name the plan you want cancelled, ask them to confirm, and keep the reply. The 2025 FTC order requires Cleo to offer a cancel method at least as easy as signing up, and says nobody has to deal with a live or virtual representative, such as a chatbot, to cancel if they didn't need one to sign up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not the subscription fee, as long as you cancel before it is taken. Cleo's terms say the fee is charged monthly from the day you subscribed, you must cancel before it is charged to avoid the next month, and you keep your plan until the end of the period you last paid for. Two other debits can still arrive: a cash advance you already took is repaid on the date you chose, and the terms let Cleo collect fees it failed to take in earlier months together with the current one. That is one way two fees land close together; one r/cashadvanceapps user said Cleo would "postpone the fee until I had more money in the bank, so sometimes I got billed a week apart." Deleting the app does not cancel anything. To see every fee, repayment and refund Cleo has taken, open your profile and tap Payment help.

Only early on. Cleo's terms (last updated August 11, 2026) give a 27-day Grace Period from when you first sign up for a plan: cancel inside it and the fee goes back to your payment method within four working days. Opening a Cleo Card, taking a cash advance or deleting your Cleo account without unsubscribing ends the Grace Period early, and after it fees are non-refundable. Plus, Pro and Builder with Mobile get no refund at all. Cleo's help articles give longer windows (within 1 month for Plus, 30 days for Builder, where requesting a physical Cleo Card rules it out), so go by the terms' 27 days. If you also want your account deleted, Cleo asks you to wait until the refund has arrived. These are the terms of Cleo's US app.

Cancelling Builder closes the card. Cleo's closure screen says the card is blocked as soon as you acknowledge the terms, any money left on it is sent from your security deposit to the bank account you picked within 45 days, and then the card is closed. Cleo's card help says that usually happens the same week, and only after every live or pending transaction has finished. Pay off any balance on the card first: the cardholder agreement says closing the account does not cancel what you owe. One conflict to know about: that agreement says a cancelled Builder card keeps working up to its limit until the paid period ends, while the app's own screen says it is blocked at once, so move any bills or subscriptions off the card before you start. Cleo's help pages don't say what happens to a savings balance when Pro or Builder ends, so move that out too.

No. Cleo's terms say the subscription fee is charged to the bank account or debit or credit card you connected, so the App Store and Google Play have nothing to cancel. Cancel inside Cleo (your profile, then Subscriptions, or type cancel in the chat) or email team@meetcleo.com. If fees keep coming out after you have cancelled, the terms also let you revoke Cleo's authorization to take payments by emailing the same address. Any cash advance you took is still owed either way.

Yes. Cleo's Plus and Builder help articles say you can cancel with an advance outstanding and still repay it on the date you chose. That wasn't always the case. The FTC's complaint says that until late 2023 Cleo did not let people with an outstanding cash advance cancel in the app, and that its customer service told them a subscription could not be cancelled while an advance was active. The 2025 settlement order requires a simple way to cancel, so if anyone tells you that today, cancel by email and keep the reply. You don't need a subscription to borrow either: Cleo's terms say you can email team@meetcleo.com and ask for a cash advance without subscribing.

Maybe, and it is separate from cancelling. In March 2025 Cleo agreed to pay $17 million to settle FTC v. Cleo AI, Inc. (S.D.N.Y., No. 1:25-cv-02594). The FTC alleged that Cleo misled people about how much they could advance and how fast, and made its subscription hard to cancel. From October 27, 2026 the FTC is sending 2,124,796 PayPal payments, more than $15.8 million in total, to people who paid Cleo for eligible instant cash advances. If you qualify, the FTC emailed you from no-reply@consumersentinel.gov between October 8 and October 26, 2026. Accept the PayPal payment within 30 days, and send questions to the refund administrator, Rust Consulting, at 1-877-788-4958. The FTC never asks you to pay to get a refund.

Plus and Pro, yes: subscribe again in the app. Builder is harder to undo. Cleo's Builder help says you can only get a new Cleo Card if you haven't reached the two-card limit, and you have to contact support to apply. It is a new card with a new number and a new credit tradeline, so both the old and new card show on your credit report, a temporary score drop is typical, and Direct Deposit isn't available on the new card if you cancelled it before. The terms tie the 27-day Grace Period to when you initially sign up for a plan, so don't count on a second refund window.
