A 12-step walkthrough with real screenshots from the live cancel flow.
On the web (not the mobile apps), open app.clickup.com, go to Settings → Billing, click Downgrade Plan under your active plan, skip the reason/feedback screens and the 3 free months offer, then confirm with Downgrade anyway. Read the Downgrade modal carefully for when Free Forever starts — many accounts see an immediate cutover (forfeiting prepaid time), while ClickUp's help center still describes an end-of-cycle switch. There is no mid-cycle refund outside the 30-day first-purchase window.
The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.
No bank login.

See ClickUp's pricing, tiers, and difficulty score in one page. ClickUp ranks #14 of 235 by cancellation difficulty.
Before you confirm, read the Downgrade modal's billing-date warning for your Workspace. Many accounts see copy that Free Forever starts immediately if you downgrade now (losing paid features before the next billing date, with no unused prepaid time back). ClickUp's help center still says the plan switches at the end of the billing cycle — treat the modal you see as the ground truth for your account. If you still need Unlimited or Business features and the modal says immediate, wait until the day before your next billing date (shown on Billing), then run this flow. Also check storage: Free Forever caps attachments at 100 MB; over that limit can soft-lock the downgrade until you delete files.
Sign in at app.clickup.com in a browser. In the upper-left corner, click your Workspace avatar and choose Settings. In the All settings sidebar, click Billing. Only a Workspace owner or admin can manage billing — members and guests will not see a working Downgrade Plan control.
On the Your plan page, find the card marked ACTIVE (for example Unlimited). Under the green ACTIVE button, click the blue Downgrade Plan link. That opens the Downgrade modal — ClickUp does not use a separate "Cancel Membership" button for self-serve plans.
The modal asks "What's the reason for the downgrade?" Open the dropdown and choose one of Too Expensive, Doesn't work for my needs, Too Complicated, Left for Competition, or Other. Then click Next. You have to pick something to continue — the Next button stays inactive until a reason is selected.
ClickUp asks for free-text feedback and whether they can reach out. You can leave the box blank or type a short note, leave No selected for follow-up, and click Continue to downgrade. This step does not finish the cancel — the retention offer still comes next.
ClickUp pitches "Would you like to stick around if we gave you 3 free months?" with a large Yes, please! button. Below the offer, read the billing-date warning carefully, then click the small Downgrade anyway link at the bottom — that is the actual cancel path.
A toast confirms "You've been downgraded to Free Forever." ClickUp may also open a post-cancel survey ("You've now been downgraded…"). The cancel is already done at this point — you can close the modal without answering. On the Billing / Upgrade page, the Workspace should read Free Forever with the 100 MB storage meter.
Dismiss any remaining survey screens until you see "Thank you for your feedback!" or the plain Upgrade page. The page should state that the Workspace is on the Free Forever Plan. Future renewals on that paid plan stop; re-upgrading later is available from the same Billing area.
After cancel, ClickUp sometimes chains a longer Qualtrics survey (competitors, friction, etc.). Filling it out is optional — the plan is already Free Forever. Click the X on the Downgrade modal header, or finish through Thank you for your feedback, then leave Billing.
Free Forever includes a 100 MB attachment cap. If ClickUp refuses the downgrade or shows an over-limit upgrade prompt instead of Downgrade Plan, delete attachments (or move files out of ClickUp) until usage is under the Free Forever limit, then retry Settings → Billing → Downgrade Plan. If you are stuck after cleanup, email help@clickup.com — ClickUp's own community staff point storage-locked cancelers there.
Plan downgrade does not automatically cancel add-ons. On Billing, open the Add-ons tab and remove ClickUp AI (or any other paid add-on) if you also want those charges to stop. Add-ons are billed independently of Unlimited / Business / Free Forever.
Stopping paid billing is the Downgrade Plan flow above — your tasks and Spaces stay on Free Forever. Permanently deleting a Workspace is a different, owner-only action under Workspace Settings → Delete Workspace, cannot be done from mobile, and cannot be undone. Only use delete if you intend to wipe the Workspace, not merely stop renewals.
RecurDash keeps track of what you're paying for and emails you before each renewal — so the next cancellation happens on your schedule, not after the charge. No bank login required.
