Sign in to the account that pays

Sign in at grammarly.com with the email address you're billed under. If you have more than one Grammarly account, the Cancel Subscription link only appears on the paid one, which is the first thing Grammarly's help centre tells you to check when the link is missing. A phone browser works too: Grammarly says you can cancel at account.grammarly.com on a mobile device. The Grammarly apps and keyboard have no cancel option.

Open Your account, then Subscription

Click the Account tab in the left sidebar, then Your account → Subscription, or go straight to account.grammarly.com/subscription. The Plan section shows your billing cycle and paid seats, and the Renewal Information box gives the date of your next charge. Note that date: cancel any time before it and you won't be billed again. Don't worry that the page talks about seats and a team name. Grammarly Pro is built as a team plan, and a solo subscriber is simply a team of one.

Scroll down and click Cancel Subscription

Scroll past Details, Billing History and Billing Receipts. At the very bottom is a red Cancel Subscription link with the line "If you wish to discontinue Grammarly Pro, you can cancel at anytime." Click it. Update plan at the top of the page is not a cancel: it changes your seat count or billing cycle and keeps charging you.

Get past the "before you go" window

Grammarly opens a window headed with your first name and "before you go...", saying that by downgrading you'll lose advanced writing suggestions and Pro-only features like the plagiarism checker, with four feature tabs underneath. Click the red Cancel subscription button on the right, not Keep my subscription on the left. Grammarly's help centre labels this button Continue, or Yes, continue on team plans, so expect one of the three.

Pick a reason and confirm Cancel Subscription

Grammarly's cancel instructions end with a short survey: choose a reason for canceling, then click Cancel Subscription. Any reason works, and it doesn't change the outcome. Some versions of the flow skip this screen and go straight to the confirmation in the next step.

Click Done on the confirmation

A window titled "You've canceled Grammarly Pro" says your subscription is canceled and gives the date your account will downgrade to the free version of Grammarly. A notice at the top of the page repeats the date. Click Done.

Check that the plan says Will not renew

Back on the Subscription page, the renewal box now reads Will not renew: "Your future billing is cancelled, you will not be charged again." It also says how long the current plan stays in effect. That's your proof the cancel went through, so take a screenshot. You keep every Pro feature until that date, then the account becomes Grammarly Free with your documents still in it. If you change your mind before then, click Re-activate your plan.

If you pay through the App Store or Google Play

Subscriptions bought in the Grammarly app are still called Grammarly Premium, and Apple or Google bills them, not Grammarly. Grammarly says changes to these plans through its website won't work. On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions, tap Grammarly, then Cancel Subscription. On Android, cancel it from your subscriptions in the Google Play Store, signed in to the Google account you bought it with.

If your Pro plan has other members

Only an admin can cancel, and canceling ends Pro for everyone on the plan: the confirmation warns that all your team members will lose access to Grammarly Pro features on the end date. If you only want to stop paying for other people's seats, remove them on the Members page, then use Update plan to set the team size to one. If you're a member rather than the admin, you can leave the team yourself, but only the admin can stop the bill.

If your bill says Superhuman

Grammarly's parent company renamed itself Superhuman in October 2025, and Grammarly's support pages now refer to charges "coming from Grammarly or Superhuman". The cancel is the same Subscription page. If you also use Superhuman Mail or the Superhuman suite through the same login, Grammarly says canceling through your Grammarly account applies across all of the suite's apps, so don't cancel here if you want to keep those.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Canceling stops the automatic renewal, and Grammarly's terms say all future payments are canceled. You keep Grammarly Pro until the end of the billing period you already paid for, monthly, quarterly or annual, and then the account is converted to Grammarly Free. Check that the Subscription page shows Will not renew. If it doesn't, the cancel didn't go through.

Not as a rule. Grammarly's terms say payments are non-refundable to the fullest extent the law allows, and its help centre says refunds are issued only if required by law, so there's no prorated refund for the unused part of a period. The exception Grammarly does write down is a charge made by mistake or a billing error: submit a support request and it will review the case. Several r/Grammarly users who were charged for a full year after forgetting a free trial got their money back by canceling and filing a request the same day. That's goodwill, not a promise, and speed seems to matter. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not Grammarly.

Nothing is deleted. Your account becomes Grammarly Free, which still catches spelling and grammar mistakes, shows your tone and includes 100 AI prompts a month. You lose the Pro-only features: tone adjustments, full-sentence rewrites, fluency and inclusive-language suggestions, citation consistency, plagiarism and AI-text detection, and the larger 2,000-prompt allowance. Team extras such as style guides, brand tones and snippets stop working too. Canceling is not the same as deleting your account, which Grammarly's help centre treats as a separate request.

Cancel it in the store that bills you: Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iPhone, or your subscriptions in the Google Play Store on Android. Grammarly Premium now only exists on those stores. From March 2025, Grammarly moved everyone who bought Premium on its website to Grammarly Pro at the same price, with no option to opt out. So if your receipt says Premium but you paid on grammarly.com, you now have Pro, and you cancel it on the Subscription page like everyone else.

Yes, with the same steps. Unlike a paid plan, a trial ends the moment you cancel: Grammarly says the account converts to the free version straight away, with no charge and your documents intact. Grammarly says it emails a reminder 2 days before the trial ends, but don't rely on it. Check which billing cycle the trial turns into, because the most common complaint on r/Grammarly is a trial that rolled into a full annual charge.

Yes. Until your end date, the Re-activate your plan button on the Subscription page undoes the cancel. After that, you can subscribe again from grammarly.com/plans and your documents will still be there. Two catches: any promotional rate you joined on doesn't come back, because Grammarly's promo prices last one billing period, and in countries where Grammarly sells its cheaper regional Plus plan, you can only buy Plus once your current paid plan has ended.
