Step-by-step instructions

1

Sign in to your Netflix account

Go to netflix.com/cancelplan and sign in. You can also reach the same page by tapping your profile icon, then Account, then Manage Membership.

2

Open your Membership page

In the left sidebar, click Membership. You'll see your current plan, payment info, and a red "Cancel Membership" button at the bottom.

3

Click Cancel Membership

Netflix takes you to the "Cancel or change your membership" page. You'll see three save offers: Finish Cancellation, Pause for 1 Month, or Change to a cheaper Standard with ads plan.

4

Skip the save offers

Scroll past the Pause and Change Plan options. Click Finish Cancellation at the top of the page.

5

Pick a cancellation reason (optional)

After clicking Finish Cancellation, Netflix shows a confirmation page with a survey asking why you're canceling. The eight pre-set options range from "too expensive" to "not enough good shows." Filling this out is optional — you can leave everything blank and click Done.

6

Add custom feedback (optional)

If your reason isn't listed, check "Other" and type a short note. Netflix uses this for product decisions, but it's not required to complete the cancellation. Click Done to submit.

Verify your cancellation date

You're returned to your Account page where a banner confirms the exact date your membership ends. You can keep watching until then — Netflix doesn't give partial refunds. If you change your mind, click Restart Membership in the banner to reverse the cancellation.

If you signed up through Apple, Google, or Amazon

The Cancel Membership button won't appear on Netflix's site if a third party handles your billing. Cancel through Apple (Settings > your name > Subscriptions), Google Play (play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions), or Amazon (Memberships & Subscriptions) instead.

Secure your account

To prevent accidental reactivation if anyone else has access, change your password at netflix.com/password and sign out of all devices. Your profiles, watchlist, and recommendations are preserved for ~10 months if you ever rejoin.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Once you cancel, Netflix won't bill you again. You keep full access until the end of your current billing period — there are no prorated refunds. The exact end date appears on your Account page banner immediately after cancellation.

Netflix doesn't offer prorated refunds, even on yearly subscriptions or if you cancel the day after being billed. Some regions with stronger consumer protection (like the EU within 14 days of subscribing) are exceptions. If you cancel mid-period, you keep access until that period ends — that's the closest thing to a refund Netflix provides.

Netflix preserves your profiles, watchlist, recommendations, and watch history for roughly 10 months after cancellation. If you rejoin within that window, everything comes back as if you never left. Any titles you downloaded for offline viewing stop working on the cancellation date.

You must cancel through whichever platform handles billing — Netflix's website won't even show a Cancel Membership option in this case. On iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. On Google: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. On Amazon: Memberships & Subscriptions. After canceling there, your Netflix access continues until the current billing period ends.

Netflix discontinued free trials in most regions starting 2020, so this rarely applies anymore. In regions that still offer them, the cancellation flow is identical: Account > Membership > Cancel Membership. Cancel before the trial end date to avoid being charged.

Yes. After cancellation, your Account page shows a Restart Membership link in the confirmation banner. Clicking it reactivates your subscription on the same plan with all your profiles and history intact — provided you restart within ~10 months of canceling. You can also restart by signing in to a canceled account at any time.
