Quick answer

If you bought Premium on the web with a card or PayPal, open Settings › Account on reddit.com, scroll to Reddit Premium, click Cancel subscription, then Yes, Cancel and Complete Cancellation. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date — Reddit gives no partial refunds, but you keep Premium until the period ends. Bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play? You have to cancel there instead.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Check how you paid first

Reddit can only cancel subscriptions you bought on the web with a credit card or PayPal. If you subscribed inside the iPhone or Android app, Apple or Google handles the billing and the steps below won't show a cancel button — skip to the last step. If you paid on reddit.com, continue here.

2

Open your Account settings on reddit.com

Sign in at reddit.com on a desktop browser, click your avatar in the top-right, and choose Settings. Open the Account tab and scroll down to the Reddit Premium section. If your subscription is active, you'll see "All Premium benefits", "Update payment information", and a Cancel subscription row.

Click Cancel subscription

Reddit opens a "Cancel subscription?" pop-up that lists the perks you'll lose — ad-free browsing, 100 daily Reddit Answers questions, avatar gear, the r/lounge Premium lounge, and custom Premium icons — and tells you the exact date your benefits expire. Click Yes, Cancel to continue, or Go Back to keep your subscription.

Answer the exit survey (optional)

Reddit shows a "Before you go, let us know why you're leaving" screen with four reasons: ad-free browsing wasn't worth it, avatar gear went unused, you didn't use the Premium lounge, or Other. Picking a reason is optional — you can leave it blank.

5

Click Complete Cancellation

Select a reason if you like (or choose Other), then click Complete Cancellation to finish. This is the button that actually cancels — the earlier "Yes, Cancel" only moved you to the survey.

Confirm it worked

You're returned to the Account page and a "Changes saved" banner appears at the bottom. The Reddit Premium section no longer shows a Cancel subscription row — only "All Premium benefits" and "Update payment information" remain. That's your confirmation the auto-renewal is off. Your Premium perks stay active until the expiry date you saw earlier.

If this applies to you

If you subscribed through Apple or Google

When you bought Premium inside the Reddit app, the website can't cancel it. On iPhone or iPad: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Reddit > Cancel Subscription. On Android: open Google Play > tap your profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > Reddit > Cancel. As with web, cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Reddit's help center states there are no partial refunds — when you cancel, your Premium benefits simply continue until the end of the period you already paid for, then stop. Canceling mid-month or mid-year doesn't refund the unused time. To avoid the next charge entirely, cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date.

On the web, Reddit Premium is $5.99/month or $49.99/year (about $4.17/month). If you subscribe inside the iPhone or Android app, it costs more — $6.99/month or $59.99/year — because Apple and Google take a cut of each in-app purchase. Reddit also notes that prices may vary by region.

That row only appears when your Premium was purchased on the web with a card or PayPal. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the billing lives with Apple or Google, so Reddit's site can't cancel it — you have to cancel in iOS Settings > Subscriptions or in the Google Play Subscriptions section. It also won't appear if you don't currently have an active Premium subscription on that account.

No. The cancel pop-up shows an expiry date — "Your premium benefits will expire on [date]." You keep ad-free browsing, avatar gear, the r/lounge access, custom icons, and the higher content limits until that date, since you've already paid for the current period. Canceling only turns off the auto-renewal.

Yes. After your benefits expire, the Reddit Premium section of your Account settings shows a "Get premium" option again, and you can resubscribe on the web from the Reddit Premium page (or in the app). There's no penalty for canceling and rejoining later — you just pay the current price at the time you re-subscribe.

On the web flow, "Yes, Cancel" only moves you to the exit survey. The cancellation isn't final until you click Complete Cancellation on that survey screen. If you closed the pop-up before then, your subscription is still active. Reopen Settings > Account > Reddit Premium, check whether the Cancel subscription row is still there, and run through to Complete Cancellation to finish.
