Quick answer

Sign in at my.surfshark.com/account/subscription/payments, open the Payments tab, click Manage subscription (or Cancel renewal), pick a reason, then skip the save offer with Cancel plan renewal. Auto-renewal stops, but Surfshark keeps you connected until your current period expires — Surfshark does not refund the unused portion, and the 30-day money-back guarantee only covers your first purchase, not renewals.

Surfshark was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Sign in to your Surfshark account

Open my.surfshark.com in a web browser and sign in with the email you used to subscribe. Cancellation is web-only — the Surfshark VPN apps on iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS do not expose a cancel button, even if you signed up through them.

2

Open Subscription and switch to the Payments tab

Click your email in the top-right corner and select Subscription, then click the Payments tab. This is where Surfshark shows your active payment method, your Subscription details row (with either an "Auto-renews on…" or "Expires on…" line), and the button that controls auto-renewal.

Surfshark Your subscription page on the Payments tab showing the saved Visa payment method, a Subscription details row reading "Surfshark subscription — Auto-renews on Feb 7, 2025 for USD 21.70", and a Manage subscription button on the right
3

Click Manage subscription (labelled "Cancel renewal" on some accounts)

On the Subscription details row, click Manage subscription to start the cancel flow. Surfshark A/B tests this UI — the help center currently documents the button as "Cancel renewal" or "Cancel auto‑renewal", which takes you straight to the reason survey below. Either label lands on the same flow.

4

Pick a reason on the "We're curious why you're canceling auto-renewal?" survey

Surfshark asks for one reason before it will let you proceed. The eight options range from "I'm switching to another provider" and "It's too expensive" to "I want to renew manually" and "Other". Pick whichever fits — the Submit and continue button stays disabled until a radio is selected.

5

Select your reason and click Submit and continue

Choose the reason that matches, then click Submit and continue at the bottom of the page. Surfshark uses this for retention research — it will not change anything about your cancellation or your refund options, so pick whatever is closest and move on.

6

Skip the "Top benefits of using Surfshark One" save offer

Surfshark shows a full-page pitch for VPN, Alert (breach monitoring), Antivirus, and Search — the bundle features you would lose by canceling. Scroll past the four cards and click Cancel plan renewal at the bottom. The teal Stay subscribed button is the retention play.

7

Confirm on "You're about to cancel auto-renewal"

The final screen shows your exact expiry date ("Your subscription expires on…") and a bullet list of benefits Surfshark thinks you'll miss. Verify the date matches what your Payments tab said, then click Cancel plan renewal to confirm.

8

Verify the "Your auto-renewal is now canceled" confirmation

You should land on a green-checkmark screen reading "Your auto-renewal is now canceled" with the same expiry date and a Got it button. Click Got it. If you return to the Payments tab, the Subscription details row will now show "Expires on…" (not "Auto-renews on…") and a teal Turn on Auto-renewal button — that pair is your proof the cancellation stuck.

9

Double-check the Payments tab now says "Expires on…"

Reload my.surfshark.com/account/subscription/payments. Under Subscription details you should now see "Expires on <date>" instead of "Auto-renews on <date>", with the button flipped to a teal Turn on Auto-renewal. If it still says "Auto-renews on…", the cancellation did not save — start the flow again or contact live chat.

If you signed up through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon

Surfshark cannot cancel a store-billed subscription — the "Manage subscription" button will be missing from the Payments tab. Cancel through whichever platform charges you: iPhone/iPad — Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Surfshark; Android — play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions; Amazon — Your Memberships & Subscriptions. Your VPN access continues until the current paid period ends.

Ask for a refund via live chat if you are still inside the 30-day window

Surfshark's 30-day money-back guarantee applies only to your <em>first</em> purchase (Paddle, Google Play, or Cleverbridge as the billing partner). If you're inside that window, open live chat from support.surfshark.com and say you want to invoke the 30-day guarantee — Surfshark support processes refunds through chat, not from the account dashboard. Renewals are not covered by this guarantee per section 4 of the Terms of Service, so if your card has just been auto-renewed at the higher annual rate, refunds are discretionary and you should escalate through email at support@surfshark.com if chat stalls.

Check your bank statement around the expiry date

Surfshark uses payment-processor card-updater services, so a card marked as "expired" in your wallet can still be billed at renewal — Surfshark r/surfshark users have reported silent charges from cards that expired months earlier. Set a calendar reminder for the day before your expiry date and skim your bank statement in the two weeks after; if a charge appears despite the cancellation, dispute it with your bank and request a refund from support@surfshark.com with the payment date and invoice ID.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, not for the next renewal — once you confirm the cancel flow, Surfshark stops future automatic payments. Your VPN, Antivirus, and other bundle features stay active until the expiry date shown on the confirmation screen and on the Payments tab. There are no prorated refunds for the unused part of the current period.

Not via Surfshark's standard policy. The 30-day money-back guarantee is limited to your first purchase — section 4 of Surfshark's Terms of Service states that "for all subscription plans, the 30-day money-back guarantee applies only to the initial purchase; all recurring payments are non-refundable." In practice, Surfshark support does sometimes issue goodwill refunds for renewals caught within a few days, so it is worth opening live chat and asking. If the service was genuinely unusable during the renewed term, Surfshark's ToS allows a discretionary pro-rata refund. Failing that, dispute the charge with your card issuer.

Yes — and you should. The free trial only exists on 12- and 24-month plans paid with PayPal, Apple Pay, or credit card, and if you don't cancel auto-renewal before the trial ends, Surfshark charges your card for the entire multi-year term. Follow the same steps in this guide during the trial: sign in, open Payments, cancel renewal. If you were already charged, you have 30 days from the initial purchase date to request a refund via live chat.

Surfshark cannot cancel app-store subscriptions — the "Manage subscription" or "Cancel renewal" button is hidden on those accounts. Cancel through the store: iPhone/iPad — Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Surfshark; Android — play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions; Amazon — Your Account > Your Memberships & Subscriptions. Refunds also go through the store: Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com, Google Play only within 48 hours of purchase (after that, Surfshark support may assist). Amazon refunds are Amazon-side.

Bundle features (VPN, Antivirus, Alert, Search) all continue until the main subscription expires. Standalone add-ons behave differently: Dedicated IP and Alternative ID / Alternative Number are explicitly non-refundable per Surfshark's ToS, even if you cancel the base plan within the 30-day window. If you switched your Dedicated IP to the anonymous mode, Surfshark deletes its record of which IP was assigned to you and will not issue a refund because the link between account and IP has been severed on purpose.

Yes. Any time before the expiry date, you can click Turn on Auto-renewal on the Payments tab and Surfshark will pick up billing on the same plan without a break. After the expiry date, sign in at surfshark.com and buy a new plan — your account, saved devices, and any Alternative ID data are preserved. Note that returning users are usually charged the standard renewal rate on the pricing page, not the promotional intro price shown to first-timers, unless you catch a returning-customer promo email.
