A 12-step walkthrough with real screenshots from the live cancel flow.
Sign in at accounts.theatlantic.com, open Subscription → Manage Subscription, then select Cancel. You keep access until the end of your paid term — The Atlantic does not refund the current term. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, cancel there instead; the Account page will not cancel Apple or Google billing.
The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.
No bank login.
Wondering if you're paying more than you used to? how this compares to other subscriptions.
See The Atlantic's pricing, tiers, and difficulty score in one page. The Atlantic ranks #24 of 235 by cancellation difficulty.
Open a recent bank or card statement (or your App Store / Play purchase history). If the charge is from The Atlantic (or Atlantic Monthly Group), use the Account Cancel path below. If it is an Apple or Google charge for The Atlantic Magazine, skip ahead to the App Store or Google Play steps — Atlantic Customer Care cannot cancel a third-party subscription for you.
Go to accounts.theatlantic.com and sign in with the email on the subscription. On the Account homepage you should see Your Subscription, the access end date, and a See Details button. If you are a subscriber but nothing is listed, connect the subscription to the account first (help center: “Why isn’t my subscription or membership in my account?”).
From the account homepage, select Subscription, then Manage Subscription in the left-side menu (or open the Modify Subscription URL from the help center). This is the same Manage Subscription area used to change plans.
On Manage Subscription, select Cancel. Atlantic states cancellations take effect at the end of your term: you keep unlimited site, app, and subscriber benefits until then, and you will not be charged for the next term. There is no mid-term cash refund on a standard US cancel.
App Store–billed members who open Subscription Details on Account see: “Please open The Atlantic’s iOS app to manage your subscription.” That page will not cancel your renewal. Use the iOS Subscription Help link only for Apple’s help articles — the cancel itself happens in Apple Settings (next steps).
On iPhone, open The Atlantic app, go to Settings (or Account), and under Your Account tap Manage My Subscription. That handoff is meant to land you in Apple’s subscription manager for The Atlantic Magazine.
If the app does not open the sheet, go to iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → The Atlantic Magazine (or The Atlantic), then Cancel Subscription and confirm. Access continues until the Apple billing period ends. Refunds for App Store charges go through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com), not Atlantic Customer Care.
After a web cancel, re-check Account — your access date should still show, with no further renewal. After an Apple cancel, the subscription sheet shows the expiration date and eventually expires (or shows Renew). Keep reading and listening until that date; print issues already owed for the term still ship per Terms of Sale.
Cancel in the Play Store: profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → The Atlantic → Cancel. Atlantic’s Account Cancel button will not stop Google billing. Access continues through the paid Play period.
To stop a gift you bought for someone else, use the gift-subscription flow and turn off Automatically renew your gift — that is not the same Cancel on your own plan. If you are only a shared member on Premium Plus, you cannot cancel the owner’s plan; ask the plan owner to cancel or remove you.
Apple News+ can show some Atlantic articles inside Apple News, but it does not include unlimited TheAtlantic.com or Atlantic app access. Canceling News+ does not cancel a separate Atlantic subscription, and canceling Atlantic does not cancel News+. Manage each where it is billed.
When the help center reports an account or subscription-management outage — or you cannot sign in — contact Customer Care: phone +1 (855) 940-0585, email support@theatlantic.com, or the help-center request form. Chat is also offered from the accounts page. For App Store or Play billing, still cancel with Apple or Google even if Atlantic’s site is down.
RecurDash keeps track of what you're paying for and emails you before each renewal — so the next cancellation happens on your schedule, not after the charge. No bank login required.
