Open Subscriptions in iPhone Settings

Monkey Taps sells Premium only through the App Store and Google Play, and its help centre says iPhone subscribers cancel in their Apple ID settings. Open the Settings app, tap your name at the top, tap Subscriptions, then tap Vocabulary - Learn words daily. On a computer, sign in at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions instead. If Vocabulary isn't in the list, use the optional steps below.

Tap Cancel Subscription, then Confirm

Scroll down if you don't see the button. During the free trial it reads Cancel Free Trial. Apple asks you to confirm and shows the date your service ends. Do this at least 24 hours before the renewal date: Monkey Taps' terms say the next charge is taken up to 24 hours before a new billing period starts.

Check that the renewal is off

Apple's test for a finished cancellation is an expiration message in red text and no Cancel button on the Vocabulary screen. Monkey Taps' help centre adds that if no subscription shows at all, you aren't currently subscribed on that Apple Account. Premium keeps working until the end of the period you paid for, then the app switches to the free version.

If Vocabulary isn't in your Subscriptions list

Search your email for "receipt from Apple" and check which Apple Account paid. If you bought the Self Growth Essentials bundle, one subscription that covers Vocabulary and five other Monkey Taps apps, your Subscriptions list shows the bundle instead, and cancelling it ends Premium in all six apps. One bundle buyer said in an App Store review that the email receipt named a different Monkey Taps app. If a family organizer pays, Apple says you can't cancel a family member's subscription, so they have to do it. If you subscribed on Android, use the next step.

If you subscribed on Android through Google Play

Open the Play Store and make sure you're signed in to the Google Account that pays. Tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Select Vocabulary and tap Cancel subscription. Google says you keep access for the time you already paid for, and that uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.

If you start from Vocabulary's own Manage subscription screen

The app has its own Manage subscription screen with a Cancel or change subscription button, but the cancel itself still happens at Apple. In a 2024 capture of the iPhone flow, that button opened an "Are you sure?" dialog warning that "All your Premium settings will be reset and you will lose access to all the Premium content." Keep subscription was the large highlighted button and Cancel subscription a plain text link. The text link handed off to Apple's Edit Subscription screen, where Cancel Free Trial or Cancel Subscription and Confirm finish the job.

Don't delete the app or your account to stop the bill

Monkey Taps' terms say subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and Google says uninstalling does not cancel. Deleting costs you data too: the help centre says deleting the app without an account deletes your favorites and collections for good, and Delete account in the app's settings permanently removes your favorites, collections and your own content. Cancel the subscription first. If you bought Lifetime, there is nothing to cancel, because it is charged once.

Monkey Taps' contract conditions say a cancellation "will be effective at the end of the then-current billing period", and that the charge is taken no more than 24 hours before each new period, so cancel at least a day early. Afterwards, look for Apple's red expiration message. One App Store reviewer found a renewal still pending on their Apple Account after thinking they had cancelled, writing that "in my haste all I did was cancel it after the first year." Deleting the app stops nothing. Lifetime is charged once and never renews.

Not from Monkey Taps for App Store purchases. Its help centre says Apple manages all refunds and decides who is eligible: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose I'd like to, then Request a refund, pick a reason and the subscription, and submit. Apple says to expect an update within 24 to 48 hours. For Google Play purchases, the help centre gives thevocabulary.app/refund, which only works when opened on an Android device with the app still installed; opened any other way it returned Page Not Found on 2026-09-28. Google Play's own refund request is the fallback. There is nothing to refund during the 3-day trial, because no payment has been taken yet. Monkey Taps' terms say the EU right of withdrawal doesn't apply once you can access the content, but Apple's refund page says buyers in countries with consumer-law protections keep those rights.

Monkey Taps' help centre lists favorites and collections, sharing and saving, basic home and lock screen widgets, basic reminders, a selection of themes and streaks as free. You lose all topics, Practice and word details, the full theme library and custom themes, advanced widget customization, backups and cross-device sync, the extra reminder options and the ad-free feed, so ads return. Content already pinned to a widget stays for the rest of its 24 hours. The free list doesn't mention words you added yourself, and an App Store review answered by the developer in April 2025 said the reviewer's 200+ own words had moved behind the paywall, so note down anything you rely on before Premium ends.
