Decide whether you're keeping your phone number

This decides the order you do things in. If you want to keep your number, port it to your new carrier first (the next three steps) and never tap Cancel service. The transfer ends the plan for you. If you don't need the number, skip ahead to opening your phone plan.

Start signing up with your new carrier and pick the option to keep your existing number. Leave Cash App Mobile active the whole time. Cash App's own instruction is not to cancel the plan before the transfer completes.

In Cash App, go to the Money tab and tap your Cash App Mobile plan. Under Manage, tap Plan, then under Account, tap Transfer info. Give the account number and transfer PIN to your new carrier, and they submit the transfer request for you.

Let the transfer finish and the plan end by itself

Most transfers finish within a few hours to one business day. When the transfer completes, your Cash App Mobile plan ends automatically, with no transfer fee or cancellation fee. Once your number works on the new carrier, check the Money tab. If your phone plan still appears there, cancel it with the steps below.

Not keeping your number: open your phone plan

Open the Cash App app, go to the Money tab and tap your phone plan. Cash App documents the cancel steps in the app only.

Tap Plan under Manage

On your phone plan screen, find the Manage section and tap Plan. Billing, in the same section, is where your payment history and Autopay live. Turning off Autopay there doesn't cancel anything.

Tap Cancel service under Account

In the Account section, tap Cancel service to end your plan. Cash App charges no cancellation fee, and there's no contract to buy out.

Know what happens after you cancel

Auto-renewal turns off immediately, and your service stays active through the end of your current billing cycle. After that, you won't be charged again. You also won't get money back for the unused days: the plan is prepaid, and Cash App doesn't give prorated refunds for cancelling mid-cycle.

Check your Activity tab after the renewal date

Cash App Mobile charges show up in the Activity tab. Your full payment history is under Money tab, your phone plan, then Billing. If a $40 charge appears after your confirmed cancellation, contact Cash App support with the charge date and amount. A charge after a confirmed cancellation is one of the cases Cash App says it will consider refunding.

Cash App's help center only describes cancelling in the app. The Cash App Mobile Terms of Service also let you cancel by calling Cash App at (800) 969-1940, available daily from 8 AM to 9:30 PM Eastern. That's your route if you're locked out or your phone is lost.

Turning off Autopay is not cancelling

If you just stop paying, the plan stays open. Cash App throttles your data, caps it at 1GB, then cuts data off, and its terms allow it to suspend or terminate the plan, after which the carrier may release your number. You would still owe any unpaid balance for service already provided. Tap Cancel service instead.

Cash App Mobile is tied to your Cash App account. If you close the account, the plan runs to the end of the paid cycle, and then your service and number are released. Port your number first if you're leaving Cash App entirely. The link works the other way too: if Cash App restricts or terminates your account, its terms let it suspend or end your phone service.

Your Cash App Mobile number is part of your Cash App contact information, and Cash App's terms make you responsible for keeping your phone number current. If the number is going away, change the phone number on your Cash App account before the plan ends, so account messages don't go to a number you no longer have.
