How to Cancel Oportun Set & Save

A 9-step walkthrough.

Quick answer

Set & Save can only be cancelled in the Oportun app or by emailing help@oportun.com. In the app, tap the person icon (top left), then Subscription, Manage and Cancel subscription. Skip the two feedback screens, tap Continue with cancellation on the free-months offer, then tap Cancel subscription once more. You keep Set & Save until your plan end date, and after that Oportun sends whatever is left in your goals back to your linked checking account. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Oportun Set & Save was the one you remembered

The next renewal is the one you won't. RecurDash keeps the list and emails you before each charge lands.

Step-by-step instructions

1

Open Profile & settings and tap Subscription

Open the Oportun app and tap the person icon in the top-left corner of the home screen to open Profile & settings. Under Settings, tap Subscription. There is no website route: Oportun's help center says Set & Save is only available in the app, and the oportun.com login is for loans.

2

Tap Manage, then Cancel subscription

At the top of the Subscription screen, tap Manage next to Your current plan. The Manage plan screen lists your current plan, the plan billed next and a Switch plan option for moving between monthly and yearly billing. Switching plans keeps you subscribed. Tap Cancel subscription at the bottom.

3

Skip the two feedback screens

Oportun first asks We'd love to know why you're leaving, with reasons such as The cost of a Set & Save membership is too high and I didn't know Set & Save was a paid app when I signed up. Tap Skip, or pick one and tap Continue. The next screen, Any other comments or suggestions?, has a Skip button too. Neither answer is required.

4

Tap Continue with cancellation on the free-months offer

A sheet slides up offering to waive the fee for a few months. In the mid-2026 app it read Stay with Oportun - free for 3 months! and named the date you would start paying again; the length may differ for you. Tap Continue with cancellation. Claim offer keeps your subscription running.

5

Tap Cancel subscription and check for the canceled banner

The What happens when you cancel screen shows the date your subscription ends and the checking account your money goes back to. It says your automated saving will stop, you can keep using Set & Save until that date, and any remaining balance is transferred to that account after the subscription ends, which can take 3 to 5 business days to post. Tap Cancel subscription. You land back on Manage plan with the message Your subscription has been cancelled, a Subscription canceled banner and a Resume subscription button. The plan card underneath may still say Upcoming. The banner is what confirms it.

If this applies to you

If your Subscription screen shows Close my account instead of Manage

That is an older version of the app, and it is still the version Oportun's help center describes. Tap Close my account and confirm. That button closes the account itself: Oportun says your savings go back to your linked bank account within 1 to 5 business days, it emails you when the money is on its way and the account is closed, and it keeps your contact details for up to 30 days in case the transfer fails.

7
If this applies to you

If you have an Oportun loan

Closing Set & Save does not affect your loan, and the app itself stays free for managing a loan. But Oportun's terms say closing Set & Save in the app is not available while you have an active Oportun loan. If the app won't let you cancel, email help@oportun.com and ask them to cancel your Set & Save subscription. Loan members also get Set & Save free for a year (four years in an invite-only pilot), after which it switches to the normal $5.99 a month or $47.88 a year, so the first fee can arrive long after you signed up.

8
If this applies to you

If you want your money back before the end date, or your checking account is closed

You don't have to empty your goals to cancel, because Oportun sends the remaining balance back after the subscription ends. If you want it sooner, tap Transfer money, choose a goal under From and your bank under To, then tap Next, Make transfer and Confirm withdrawal. Standard withdrawals are free and usually post in 1 to 5 business days; some banks also support a 99-cent instant withdrawal. Money can only go back to the checking account it came from. If that account is closed, tap Checking account closed? Request a check on the cancel screen, or email help@oportun.com. Oportun mails checks to US addresses only.

If this applies to you

Deleting the app, pausing saves or unlinking your bank is not cancelling

Oportun's help center says deleting or uninstalling the app does not close your account or unlink your bank. Pausing auto-saves doesn't stop the fee either: the pause screen itself says your monthly subscription fee will continue to be charged while goals are paused. Removing your connected bank account sends your saved balance back, but Oportun doesn't say it ends the subscription. Cancel from Manage plan so the fee actually stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not the subscription fee. Cancelling in the app ends Set & Save on the date shown on the What happens when you cancel screen, and Oportun's terms say a closed account is not charged the fee. A few other debits can still land: an auto-save Oportun started before you cancelled still posts to your bank (you can withdraw it afterwards), a manual save you already started cannot be stopped, and a 99-cent instant withdrawal fee shows up 1 to 3 business days after the withdrawal. The Manage plan screen may also keep showing your next plan as Upcoming under the Subscription canceled banner. Trust the banner, then check your checking account around your usual billing date. If a Set & Save fee appears, email help@oportun.com.

Oportun doesn't publish a refund policy for the subscription. Its FAQ says you can cancel anytime at no cost, and when you cancel you keep Set & Save until the end of the period you have paid for, so don't expect money back for the days left. The terms do say Oportun may send money to your bank to correct an error or refund a fee, so if you were charged after cancelling or charged twice, email help@oportun.com with the date and amount. Separately, Oportun reimburses overdraft, NSF and late fees caused by its auto-saves or manual saves when they hit within two days of the save, up to four a month: email a screenshot showing both the save and the fee. Set & Save is only open to US residents, so EU and UK cooling-off rules don't apply.

It comes back to you. The money is yours and sits in accounts Oportun holds for members at its partner banks (Citibank, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo). After your subscription ends, Oportun transfers the remaining balance to your linked checking account, which it says can take 3 to 5 business days to post, and it emails you your statements and tax documents. It only returns money to the checking account it came from; if that account is closed, it mails a check to a US address. Oportun pays no interest on Set & Save balances, so nothing is lost by moving the money earlier with Transfer money if you would rather have it now.

No to all three. Oportun's help center says Set & Save is available in the Oportun app, and the website login is for loans. Oportun doesn't bill through Apple or Google either: its terms say the fee is withdrawn directly from your linked bank account, so Set & Save never shows up in your iPhone or Google Play subscriptions. The only other route the terms name is email. Write to help@oportun.com from the address on your account, ask them to cancel your Set & Save subscription, and keep their reply. Set & Save support also answers on 855-314-5934, Monday to Sunday, 9 am to 4:30 pm Central, and by chat on oportun.com.

Yes. The trial starts when you connect your checking account, and the Manage plan screen shows the date it ends. Cancel before then and the What happens when you cancel screen shows your subscription ending on the trial end date. You're not the first to be caught out: I didn't know Set & Save was a paid app when I signed up is one of the reasons Oportun lists in its own cancellation survey. If a $5.99 or $47.88 debit already went through, email help@oportun.com about it.

Yes. Oportun bought Digit in December 2021, and the savings app became Oportun Savings and then Set & Save; the App Store listing still says it was formerly known as Digit. It is the same app under a new name, and you cancel it the same way. Digit's record is worth knowing if you're keeping an eye on your checking account: in August 2022 the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Hello Digit to pay a $2.7 million penalty after finding its auto-save tool routinely caused overdrafts and that it did not always reimburse the fees it had promised to cover.

Yes. Until your plan end date, the Manage plan screen shows a Resume subscription button, and the Subscription canceled banner says you can restart your subscription at any time. After the end date you can set up Set & Save again in the Oportun app; Oportun's terms say your login may keep working for its other products in the meantime. Oportun doesn't say whether a returning member gets another free trial.
